Job overview
We are seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking consultant physician in geriatric medicine to join a multidisciplinary team covering North Cumbria. Applications are welcome from both experienced and newly trained Consultants.
This position is based in the Elderly Care Department at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle (CIC).
The successful candidate will work as part of an established team to develop new models of care within an acute frailty pathway. This is an excellent opportunity to join an organization where clinicians lead management and service development.
The appointee will contribute to out-of-hours work and the on-call rota (1:12).
The role involves delivering care on a 32-bed elderly care ward within the Trust’s frailty pathway, and seeing patients in rapid access frailty clinics for Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment.
The post also includes providing advice to community GPs and facilitating early access assessments in 'Hot' clinics to reduce unplanned admissions from A&E.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will, alongside existing colleagues, be responsible for providing a comprehensive, efficient, and cost-effective clinical frailty service.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
* Contribute to the delivery of high-quality geriatric care
* Participate in multidisciplinary team activities
* Develop and implement new models of care within the frailty pathway
* Engage in teaching and training of junior staff and medical students
* Participate in audit and clinical governance activities
Working for our organisation
Our elderly care services in West and North East Cumbria align with the Trust's strategic aims:
1. Provide early Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (7 days a week) as per standards, developing interface geriatrics and short-stay assessment units.
2. Ensure specialist geriatric input to surgical patients, following recommendations by relevant professional bodies.
3. Deliver high-quality primary care support through rapid access clinics and advice services.
