Buckingham Futures are recruiting for aHousing Advice Officerto deliver advice to individuals with housing and homelessness needs in the Yorkshire and the Humber region. This is a fast-paced, rewarding role where you’ll assess needs, provide advice, and help people access suitable housing solutions.
What you’ll be doing
* Acting as the first point of contact (face‑to‑face, phone, email) for housing and homelessness enquiries
* Carrying out detailed initial assessments to determine eligibility, housing status, local connection, and priority need in line with homelessness legislation
* Providing advice on housing rights, options, and available support services
* Making homelessness decisions and progressing cases appropriately
* Using prevention tools such as the Housing Register, Discretionary Housing Payments, and access to private rented or leased accommodation to prevent or relieve homelessness
* Working collaboratively with internal teams and partner organisations to support customers
* Referring individuals to accommodation and support services where needed
* Ensuring all case records and data are accurate, up to date, and completed within required timescales (including reporting such as HCLIC returns)
What we’re looking for
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive situations
* Experience supporting vulnerable individuals (ideally within housing or homelessness services)
* Ability to assess complex cases and make informed decisions in line with legislation
* Good organisational, problem‑solving, and negotiation skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Knowledge of housing legislation (Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017) is desirable
* Experience using housing systems such asCivica would be an advantage
