Accountable to: Registered Manager
Organisational Relationships: The Deputy Manager will be responsible for supporting the Registered Manager in the management of the staff team.
Description of Role
The Deputy Manager will be responsible for supporting the Registered Manager in all aspects of the running of the home, ensuring the service is fully compliant with all legislative and regulatory requirements, particularly the Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards
Additionally, to ensure the provision of high quality emotional and physical care, appropriate activities, comfortable accommodation and the service of key workers in accordance with the Home's policies, procedures and practice.
Duties and responsibilities
* To be responsible (as delegated), for the delivery of the Homes policies, processes and practices.
* To promote the practice of working in partnership with young people, their families, other staff within the Home, and other agencies, to meet the needs of young people.
* To promote team development and effective team working.
* To maximise the effectiveness of staff through inspiration, motivation, development and the application of the Home's policies.
* To take the lead in setting standards and evaluating achievements; to take a proactive role in securing improvements in the quality of services provided by the Home.
* To contribute to the development of strategic and operational policies and service initiatives, aimed at improving the service provided by the Home.
* To ensure that the Statement of Purpose is appropriate to the needs of young people and consistent in practice.
* To set and review developmental and improvement targets and objectives for the Home's staff team and ensure outcomes are measurable.
* To provide operational management of the staff team and to deploy appropriate staff resources in order that key tasks are fulfilled.
* To ensure that sufficient 'backup' resources are available in emergency / out of hours situations including participation in an out of hours 'On-Call' rota.
* To have line management responsibilities for the staff team, ensuring that all staff receive appropriate induction, supervision and appraisal.
* To be responsible for ensuring a two-way flow of information between staff and supervisory / management.
* To take a lead role in the gatekeeping and allocation of a range of services provided to meet the identified needs of young people.
* To ensure that the policies and procedures of the Home are correctly implemented.
* To actively participate in recruitment, complaint, disciplinary, health and safety and other staffing matters with support from the Responsible Individual.
* To ensure that staff training and individual and team developmental needs are identified and met and to assist in training as required.
* To ensure that all Health and Safety Regulations are complied with.
* To regularly oversee the inspection of the condition of the structure, fabric, furnishings and fittings of the building to ensure that all necessary equipment, etc., is in good working order and of a reasonable and acceptable standard of repair.
* To ensure that effective financial budgets, control, administration and records comply with expectations and procedures.
* To promote and implement the Home's Equality and Diversity policies and procedures.
* To ensure that staff understand and implement the Home's Child Protection Procedures.
* To lead (as delegated) on the review of incidents/events and identify 'lessons learned' as appropriate. (i.e. process for analysing what happened, why it happened,
and how it can be done better by the participants.)
* To undertake any other such duties as required by the Registered Manager, commensurate with the grade of the post.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Experience and Qualifications
* Essential: Level 3 Diploma in Children's Residential Childcare
* Desirable: Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare - or be working towards it.
* Demonstrate commitment to continuing professional development

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
* Satisfactory enhanced DBS and Safer Recruitment vetting
* Full, valid UK driving license with access to personal transport and willingness to drive the home vehicle when required (preferred)
* Legal right to work in the UK
* Ability to work within a 24/7 rota system, including weekend shifts and sleep-ins

Pay: £42,000.00-£52,000.00 per year
