Job Description:
This role is for a Virtual Financial Controller Location Manager or Assistant Manager, based in Theale, Berkshire. The position is permanent and full-time, within a respected accountancy practice's Virtual Financial Controller and Outsourcing team.
It is ideal for an experienced accountant seeking a role with significant responsibility, autonomy, and client interaction.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide Financial Controller-level support to a portfolio of clients, including preparing management accounts, reviewing junior team members' work, preparing information packs for board meetings, reconciling balance sheets, investigating variances, updating cashflow forecasts, preparing VAT returns, compliance filings, statutory financial statements under UK GAAP and IFRS, supporting external audits, and handling ad hoc client finance queries.
* Build and maintain strong client relationships, understanding their needs and identifying support opportunities.
* Scope, plan, and budget client projects, ensuring proper resource allocation.
* Oversee and review work prepared by junior team members, providing feedback for their development.
* Handle complex or judgmental work, analyzing data, identifying issues, and providing conclusions.
* Act as the primary client contact, ensuring effective communication.
* Stay current with technical and operational knowledge to offer insights and advice.
* Monitor project deadlines and budgets, managing projects to completion.
* Collaborate with the commercial team for timely client billing.
Team Leadership Responsibilities:
As a line manager to trainee accountants, you will:
* Set goals and development plans, and hold regular review sessions.
* Mentor and support junior team members' technical and personal development.
* Participate in recruitment and departmental management.
* Lead or contribute to internal projects as needed.
Skills and Attributes for Success:

Requirements:
* Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent).
* Experience preparing high-quality financial information in practice and/or industry.
* Strong knowledge of UK GAAP, IFRS, and month-end processes.
* Experience with management accounts, VAT returns, and accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero).
* Proficiency in Microsoft 365, especially Excel.
* Ability to manage client projects, build relationships, and lead teams.
