About the Role
We are looking to appoint a committed, enthusiastic, and caring Level 3 Teaching Assistant to join the Resource Base for Deaf Pupils at Mellers Primary School Resource Base for Deaf Pupils. This full-time position is initially offered on a temporary basis, with the possibility of a permanent contract for the right candidate.
The successful applicant will work closely with teachers, specialist staff, and the wider SEND team to provide high-quality support for Deaf pupils across the primary phase, helping children to access learning and achieve their full potential within a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Support teaching and learning for Deaf pupils within the classroom and resource base
2. Deliver small group and one-to-one interventions
3. Support pupils’ communication, language, and social development
4. Assist with the preparation of learning activities and specialist resources
5. Promote independence, confidence, and inclusion for all pupils
6. Work collaboratively with teachers, families, and external professionals, including specialist hearing support services
7. Monitor and record pupil progress under teacher guidance
8. Support positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
Person Specification
The successful candidate will have:
9. A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
10. Experience working within a primary school or SEND setting
11. Good communication and interpersonal skills
12. A patient, caring, and flexible approach
13. Good literacy and numeracy skills
14. Preferably British Sign Language (BSL) Level 2 qualification, although Level 1 will be considered
15. An understanding of the needs of Deaf children and inclusive practice would be desirable
16. Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
