Recruitment Partner at Associated British Ports

We’re the UK's largest ports operator with a network of 21 ports around Britain. We handle around one quarter of the UK's seaborne trade and contribute £7.5 billion to our economy every year.

Our asset management team in the Humber has responsibility for the maintenance, statutory requirements and life cycle of all structures across the four ports we operate within the region – including bridges, quays, fenders, retaining walls and marine structures. We are looking to recruit a Structural Engineer to be based from either Hull or Immingham and provide professional engineering input into inspections, assessments, minor design works and investment planning, ensuring assets remain safe, reliable and fit for purpose.

Why should you make ABP your first Port of call?

* Have the chance to make a difference in a business critical to UK trade
* Work within an exciting, technology‑focused, growing business
* Thrive in an inclusive environment where every individual can be themselves and feel respected
* Receive a competitive salary and benefits package
* Get support for training, personal development and further education
* Benefit from support and engagement through dedicated management and leadership

Accountabilities

* Support the Civil Asset Management team in defining and implementing lifecycle strategies for built infrastructure assets, ensuring safety, reliability, cost-effectiveness and sustainability across specification, operation, maintenance, refurbishment and disposal stages.
* Undertake, review and interpret structural inspections (including water‑based), survey data and technical reports. Log defects, triage findings and scope remedial works, converting inspection outputs into prioritised work packages for timely delivery.
* Ensure inspections, assessments and design work comply with relevant industry standards (CG300, CS450/454 for bridges, PIANC/BS6349 for marine structures and Eurocodes for bridges).
* Identify and assess asset risks based on condition and criticality. Contribute to risk registers and intervention strategies, ensuring visibility of high‑risk items and supporting mitigation plans in line with corporate assurance requirements.
* Carry out structural/civil designs (minor), assessments and calculations for maintenance and small works. Prepare and review engineering scope, drawings, specifications and technical scopes, ensuring compliance with CDM 2015 and statutory requirements.
* Assist in defining preventative planned maintenance strategies and task lists. Optimise shutdowns and port windows with Operations, assure RAMS quality and monitor contractor performance to achieve safety, quality and schedule objectives.

Skills & Experience Required

* Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (minimum BEng)
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) accreditation, preferably through ICE or an equivalent professional body
* Experience in marine structures, bridges or comparable heavy infrastructure
* Familiarity with CG300 – Technical Approval of Highway Structures
* Knowledge of CS450/454 bridge inspection and assessment standards
* Full UK driving licence

Benefits

* Competitive salary
* Contributory pension from day one (starting at 3% employee contribution with 5% company match)
* Private healthcare
* Employee Assistance Programme
* 26 days annual leave + bank holidays (plus option to purchase additional days)
* Wide range of discounts and cashback with high‑street and online retailers

Closing Date for the role is 23rd November
