Technical Consultant - Unified Communications (UC) | Pre-Sales & 2nd-Line Support
Focus: Pre-Sales, 2nd-Line Support, and Partner Enablement
Location: Based in Reading, Berkshire | Full-Time | Driving Licence Required
We are recruiting on behalf of a fast-growing UK-based value-added distributor that supports resellers, MSPs, ISPs, and system integrators with high-quality networking, UC, security, and connectivity solutions.
As part of their expanding technical services team, we are seeking a hands-on Technical Consultant to join their Unified Communications (UC) division. This role combines pre-sales solution design, 2nd-line post-sales support, and partner enablement, with direct engagement across suppliers, internal teams, and channel partners.

Key Responsibilities
Pre-Sales & Solution Design
* Provide product and solution guidance to internal sales teams and external partners
* Deliver product demonstrations, attend customer visits, and assist with solution architecture
* Identify upsell opportunities and support account development
* Represent the company at webinars, trade shows, and industry events
Supplier & Product Engagement
* Act as the technical lead for UC product lines
* Maintain up-to-date certifications and knowledge of supplier portfolios
* Support product lifecycle management across technical and commercial teams
Training & Enablement
* Deliver structured technical and product training to internal teams and partners
* Run instructor-led courses (e.g. UC certifications, SIP troubleshooting, Wi-Fi, Wireshark)
* Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to promote training offerings
2nd-Line Technical Support
* Provide advanced support to partners (resellers handle 1st-line)
* Troubleshoot product and configuration issues using documentation, remote tools, and bench testing
* Escalate to suppliers when necessary and contribute to the internal knowledge base
Professional Services & Collaboration
* Support the development and delivery of value-added technical services
* Assist with product returns (limited involvement)
* Collaborate with suppliers and customers as part of the UC Virtual Business Team

Candidate Requirements
* Degree in a computing-related field or equivalent hands-on networking experience
* Strong technical and commercial knowledge of:
o VoIP and Unified Communications
o IP PBX (Appliance / Software / Cloud)
o Enterprise / Multi-cell DECT
o IP phone provisioning and management
* Solid understanding of:
o WAN/DSL routers, switches, VLANs
o Firewalls and VPNs
* Confident in analysing SIP logs, PCAPs, and using tools such as Wireshark
* Strong communication and presentation skills
* Experience in customer-facing technical roles
* Ability to manage time and priorities across multiple projects
