We are looking for multiple Senior Software Engineers to join Asda's Online & Customer department.
Please be advised that this position requires attendance at Asda House in Leeds for a minimum of three days per week. We’re really looking forward to having you around!

Where the role sits
You will provide technical leadership and engineering oversight within your team to enable the delivery of high-quality, scalable, secure products. You will combine hands-on delivery with technical leadership, setting a high bar for engineering standards and practices.

Tech StackOur George online solution is built on a cloud-first microservices architecture, with a rich integration layer ensuring the service is robust and responsive on the 24/7 basis our customers expectExperience of building enterprise-grade distributed solutions on cloud platforms will be essential, as we continue to deliver applications that are secure, observable, scalable, and reliableThe ideal candidate will have full-stack experience, with exposure to technologies such as React Native, .NET, Azure, and Terraform.

Technical Design & DeliveryDesign and deliver high-quality technical solutions that align with agreed architectural standards and patterns.Work closely with Product and Architects to translate business requirements into well-designed, scalable and performant solutions.Lead by example through hands-on contribution to code, reviews, testing and production support where required.
4. Leadership & MentorshipAct as the senior technical authority within squads, providing direction, guidance and support to engineers.Mentor and coach Associate and Apprentice engineers to raise overall capability, improve engineering practices, and support career development.Balance hands-on engineering with leadership responsibilities to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery across teams.Support Engineering Managers with technical input into planning, risk management and delivery decisions.
5. Governance, Best Practices & QualityChampion engineering best practices, including code quality, testing, CI/CD, security and operational readiness.Promote a DevSecOps mindset, encouraging ownership, autonomy and accountability for the full software lifecycle.Ensure quality, reliability and security are built into solutions from design through to production.
6. Collaboration & CommunityActively contribute to engineering and agile communities of practice, helping to shape and embed shared standards, patterns and principles.Collaborate across teams and domains to reduce duplication, encourage reuse, and improve consistency.Share knowledge and learning to strengthen the wider engineering organisation.
7. Innovation & StrategyEvaluate and recommend tools, technologies and practices that improve engineering effectiveness and developer experience.Drive continuous improvement in delivery, quality and operational maturity.Stay current with industry trends and apply relevant insights pragmatically within the organisation.
What You'll Need
8. Experience building scalable solutions according to software architecture and design principles.
9. Strong knowledge of software development best practices, including code reviews, testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
10. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
11. Proven experience leading software development teams in the delivery of complex projects.
12. Experience with distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud-based solutions.
