Chronos Energy are partnered with a leading sustainable energy project developer to recruit a Procurement Manager for their growing team. Our client focus on large low carbon heat networks and have projects and assets across the whole of the UK.



About the Role: This role is critical in consolidating spend, embedding effective procurement controls, and supporting the delivery of complex project tenders. Reporting to the Interim Head of Procurement, the Procurement Manager will work closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to deliver value for money, ensure compliance, drive sustainability, and strengthen the commercial foundations of the business during a period of organisational change and growth, ensuring procurement is a driver of efficiency, innovation, and competitive advantage.



Responsibilities:



* Category & Commodity Management:
* Lead procurement activities across assigned categories/commodities, focusing on demand management, supplier rationalisation, and total cost of ownership.
* Develop and implement category and commodity strategies informed by market intelligence and industry trends, ensuring resilience and security of supply.
* Engage stakeholders to identify opportunities for consolidation and improved ways of working.


* Project & Tender Management:
* Manage the end-to-end procurement process for complex, high-value projects, from market engagement through to contract award.
* Develop tender documentation, run competitive sourcing events, evaluate suppliers, and negotiate robust commercial agreements in collaboration with key business stakeholders.
* Provide procurement and commercial input into project planning, ensuring activity aligns with delivery milestones.


* Controls, Compliance & Governance:
* Embed procurement governance processes, controls, and policies to ensure compliance with internal frameworks, audit requirements, and industry best practice.
* Support transparent reporting on procurement activity, value delivery, and supplier performance.


* Contract & Supplier Relationship Management:
* Support post-award contract management, ensuring delivery of contractual commitments, KPIs, and service levels.
* Develop strong supplier relationships to drive innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
* Implement structured supplier performance reviews and corrective action processes.


* Sustainability, Social Value & Market Development:
* Embed ESG, sustainability, and social value considerations into procurement activity, supporting the organisation’s Net Zero and community objectives.
* Conduct market research to identify emerging suppliers, technologies, and opportunities to enhance cost efficiency and resilience.
* Promote supplier diversity and responsible sourcing across the supply chain.


* Stakeholder Engagement & Capability Building:
* Partner with internal teams (technical, operations, finance, legal, project delivery) to align procurement with business objectives.
* Act as a trusted advisor, promoting commercial awareness and procurement best practice across the organisation.
* Support capability-building in the procurement function, sharing knowledge and mentoring colleagues where appropriate.



Qualifications:



* Proven track record as a Procurement Manager or Category Manager in a regulated or complex project environment.
* Strong experience in running end-to-end tender processes, negotiating contracts, and managing suppliers.
* Solid understanding of procurement governance, compliance, and risk management.
* Commercially astute with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Confident stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at all levels.


Required Skills:


* Experience in utilities, energy, construction, engineering, or infrastructure sectors.
* Familiarity with district heating, renewable energy, or low-carbon infrastructure.
* Knowledge of procurement governance and risk management in complex, high-value project environments.
* Knowledge of ESG and sustainable procurement practices.
* Experience with procurement systems, ERP, or e-sourcing tools (e.g. MS Dynamics 365, Ariba).
* MCIPS qualification (or working towards).

* Hands-on approach, balancing strategic thinking with operational delivery.
* Strong integrity, with a drive to instil discipline, control, and best practice.
* Collaborative and approachable, with excellent communication and influencing skills.


Pay range and compensation package: Competitive salary based on experience.
