Job Purpose
The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimising all manufacturing operations relating to uPVC windows, doors, curtain walling, and cladding systems. The role ensures production targets are met safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards, while maintaining compliance with industry regulations, customer specifications, and company objectives.
Key ResponsibilitiesProduction & Operations Management
1. Plan, coordinate, and control daily production activities to meet delivery schedules and customer requirements
2. Manage end-to-end manufacturing processes including fabrication, assembly, glazing, and finishing
3. Monitor production output, efficiency, and waste, implementing continuous improvement initiatives
4. Ensure effective use of machinery, labour, and materials
Quality Control & Compliance
5. Ensure all products meet required quality standards, specifications, and tolerances
6. Oversee implementation and adherence to quality management systems (e.g. ISO standards where applicable)
7. Investigate non-conformances and implement corrective and preventative actions
8. Ensure compliance with relevant building regulations, British/European Standards, and client specifications
Health, Safety & Environment
9. Enforce strict adherence to Health & Safety policies and procedures across the production facility
10. Conduct risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safety audits
11. Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with COSHH and machinery regulations
Team Leadership & Development
12. Lead, motivate, and manage production supervisors, team leaders, and operatives
13. Set clear performance objectives and carry out appraisals and disciplinary procedures where required
14. Identify training needs and support skills development within the production team
15. Foster a positive, productive, and accountable working environment
Planning, Stock & Cost Control
16. Work closely with procurement and planning teams to ensure material availability
17. Monitor stock levels of profiles, glass, hardware, and ancillary components
18. Control production costs, labour efficiency, and scrap levels
19. Contribute to budgeting and forecasting activities
Cross-Department Collaboration
20. Liaise with Sales, Design, Technical, and Installation teams to ensure smooth project delivery
21. Provide technical and production input during project planning and problem resolution
22. Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives
Skills & ExperienceEssential
23. Proven experience in a production or manufacturing management role within the uPVC window, door, curtain walling, or façade industry
24. Strong understanding of uPVC fabrication processes, glazing systems, and associated machinery
25. Excellent leadership and people-management skills
26. Solid knowledge of Health & Safety regulations in a manufacturing environment
27. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
28. Strong organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills
Desirable
29. Experience with curtain walling and cladding systems
30. Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies
31. Familiarity with production planning software or ERP systems
32. Relevant manufacturing, engineering, or management qualification
