Who are we?

We’re Standard Life, a retirement specialist focused entirely on retirement savings and income. We champion the belief that everyone’s journey to and through retirement can be better, and for more than 200 years, we’ve been helping our customers plan and prepare for their financial futures.

Life today is increasingly complicated, uncertain and unpredictable. People move through different careers, face unexpected moments and navigate important choices. We offer our colleagues flexibility, trust and benefits that work for whatever life brings. In return we expect curiosity, connection, accountability and high standards. We make room for what matters - so you can bring your best, every day.

What are we looking for?

Are you ready to play a pivotal role in shaping Standard Life’s relationships with UK regulators? As Regulatory Relationships Manager, you’ll join our newly structured team to support senior leaders—including ExCo and Board members—in navigating regulatory expectations with clarity, consistency, and credibility. This high-impact role is central to building trust and reinforcing confidence in our strategy, governance, and risk management.

We’re looking for someone with sharp judgement, strategic insight, and the confidence to challenge constructively at senior levels. You’ll interpret regulatory signals, anticipate implications, and influence outcomes in a high-trust environment. Your ability to distil complexity into clarity and guide senior stakeholders through evolving regulatory landscapes will be key to how Standard Life is perceived by its regulators.

The role

Reporting to the Head of Regulatory Relationships, the Regulatory Relationships Manager acts as a trusted conduit between Standard and its UK regulators. This is a strategically important role, focused on building and sustaining confidence in the Group’s strategy, governance, and risk management.

You’ll lead proactive, coordinated engagement with the PRA, FCA and TPR, enabling senior leaders—including ExCo and Board members—to navigate regulatory expectations with clarity and credibility. Your insight will help anticipate regulatory challenges and shape responses that support the Group’s long-term objectives.

With experience in life insurance and pensions, and a strong grasp of regulatory dynamics, you’ll bring both technical expertise and strategic judgement. Whether you’ve managed regulatory relationships directly or held a relevant role within a supervisory body, you’ll understand how to influence outcomes and foster trust.

As part of the newly structured Regulatory Relationships Team, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our regulatory messaging is consistent, aligned to strategic priorities, and reflective of our operational and financial resilience.

Key Responsibilities

1. Act as a key liaison with UK regulators, supporting high-priority interactions and ensuring our messaging is aligned, credible, and strategically focused.
2. Work across the three lines of defence to assess regulatory developments and emerging risks, shaping proactive engagement strategies that reflect sound judgement and foresight.
3. Prepare ExCo and SMF leaders for regulatory conversations with clear, concise briefings that reinforce confidence in our strategy and resilience.
4. Champion a “one voice” approach across the Group, aligning communications to build trust in our business model and regulatory credibility.
5. Deliver against established standards and frameworks for regulatory engagement, embedding risk culture metrics and ensuring consistent execution across the Group.
6. Leverage internal and external networks to anticipate shifts in regulatory focus and inform engagement strategies that reflect our evolving risk landscape.
7. Continuously improve the quality of regulatory conversations by drawing on expertise across the Risk function and ensuring strategic depth..

Essential

8. Direct engagement with regulatory supervision (PRA, FCA or TPR in particular), with a clear understanding of how regulatory expectations influence business strategy, governance, and risk appetite.
9. Experienced in a senior Risk role, Line 1 leadership position, or within a regulatory body, with a track record of navigating complex regulatory landscapes and leading/guiding others through complex regulatory issues
10. Exposure to Board/Executive that brings confidence to brief, advise, and influence ensuring they are well-prepared for regulatory interactions and aligned on key messaging.
11. Experienced in navigating complex stakeholder landscapes, balancing competing priorities and aligning diverse viewpoints.
12. A strong grasp of regulatory and market trends, with the ability to translate emerging issues into meaningful insights and strategic responses.

We want to hire the whole version of you.

We are committed to ensuring that everyone feels accepted and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. If your experience looks different from what we’ve advertised and you believe that you can bring value to the role, we’d love to hear from you.
