Department overview Definition, development, delivery and verification of the Thermal and Aerothermal Systems Engineering (TASE) attribute from vehicle, system and component level (virtual and physical) for all Aston Martin vehicle derivatives. Job Purpose To provide technical expertise and leadership of a team for the definition, development, delivery and verification of the thermal attribute (as part of the wider TASE team) within a complex aero-thermal environment at vehicle, system (passive and active) and component level both virtual and physical for all Aston Martin vehicle programmes. The Thermal manager being responsible for actively, passively cooled systems and cabin thermal comfort. The attribute manager will be based at the Aston Martin facility in Gaydon and will be expected to occasionally travel overseas to support the needs of the business Key duties and responsibilities Support the development and technical management of a team structure to deliver the Thermal Systems Engineering attribute through the following: Support the attribute senior manager of the Thermal and Aerothermal Systems Engineering (TASE) team to deliver TASE KPI’s at vehicle, system and component level (virtual and physical) for all Aston Martin vehicle derivatives Establish a technical direct stakeholder network with key commodity, attribute teams and business functions to enable the definition, delivery and futuring of the TASE attribute Define and cascade targets and pull input parameter KPI’s to and from commodity teams for systems and components Establish a technical indirect stakeholder network for the supporting interfaces and attribute input parameters for the attribute (e.g Design studio, Electrical and Software Technology team, component supply base etc) Collaborate with Advanced Product Creation (APC) team to scope and define appropriate research and benchmark initiatives to develop and future the Thermal Systems Engineering attribute and enable development of appropriate specifications and standards (subjective and objective) Define, develop, deliver and verify the Thermal Systems Engineering attribute and ensure cohesive subjective to objective metric prevention and detection catalogue Support development of the thermal CAE toolset led by APC team; virtual; (1D and CFD – e.g.Star-CCM, ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, ANSYS Icepak, Simcenter Flotherm), system to vehicle; (e.g MATLAB, Python, Siemens NX) Support the senior manager of the Thermal and Aerothermal Systems Engineering (TASE) team to define and execute the verification plan at appropriate levels (Vehicle, system, component), (virtual and physical) within the constraints of function, cost, timing and quality of event Support the team for vehicle, system and component instrumentation, data acquisition and analysis methods (ATI, Vector, CANalayser, CANape, etc) Be recognised as the technical authority for all aspects of the Thermal Systems Engineering attribute Ensure that the wider stakeholder teams requirements and design verification plans (DVP’s) align to the Thermal Systems Engineering attribute Review “voice of the customer” feedback from stakeholder network to ensure Aston Martin DNA is delivered and the attribute roadmap protects and futures the attribute Review commodity team foundation DFMEA’s, DVP’s and system feature catalogues to ensure appropriate content protects for Thermal Systems Engineering attribute requirements and deliver the required integrity level for vehicle-based testing. Manage the Thermal Systems Engineering attribute budget; facilities, vehicles, consumables, resources, spares etc to support programme delivery Collaboratively plan and deliver the Thermal Systems Engineering verification plan Ensure Thermal Systems Engineering issues are tracked, robustly contained and counter-measured using agreed issue tracking and reporting tools Definition of roadmap, methodology with publication of standards, specifications and test procedures for the Thermal Systems Engineering attribute with the combined stakeholder teams Reporting of the status of the Thermal Systems Engineering attribute and appropriate metrics to support programme gateway reporting Experience and qualifications Essential experience Experience in automotive product development, Thermal Systems Engineering (TASE) attribute development. A proven track record of defining, verifying and delivering vehicle-level thermal performance across complex development projects Expert knowledge in the principles of heat transfer, fluid dynamics and attribute system controls Proven experience with running vehicle (ICE, HEV and BEV) vehicle and system tests including HVAC system dyno / test facilities An experienced technical authority supporting direct and indirect teams Sound commercial and financial awareness. Proven ability in project management delivery through product delivery framework process Experience of high volume / niche vehicle (low volume) programmes Knowledge of vehicle proving grounds, race tracks and test facilities in Europe Experience with noise factor management and problem-solving methodologies Proven experience with thermal attribute development tools, testing methods, and data analysis techniques Experienced in vehicle instrumentation, data acquisition and analysis methods (ATI, Vector, CANalayser, CANape, etc) Experienced with TASE simulation toolset; (1D and CFD – e.g. Star-CCM, ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, ANSYS Icepak, Simcenter Flotherm, MATLAB, Python, Siemens NX) Experienced in vehicle archetypes definition and target cascade process Excellent analytical skills, with experience in translating and communicating attribute KPI’s to stakeholders Must be proficient with the use of all common Microsoft Office applications Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Preferred experience Experience with statistical analysis methodologies (Six Sigma) is advantageous An ability to communicate complex ideas quickly and include component expertise in decision making Demonstrated ability to make decisions against conflicting requirements to deliver a balanced recommendation for the vehicle programme Essential education/ qualifications Engineering degree or equivalent Preferred education/ qualifications Masters Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace or related) Required skills/ behaviours An energetic, driven and goal-based leader with a passion for delivering challenging projects to exact and compact timescales with a significant amount of innovation and customer focus Must be well organised and methodical, with an excellent attention to detail Able to work as an effective member of a team, while also confident to work alone Can adapt quickly to become skilled with the use of new systems / software Must demonstrate a high level of self-motivation, initiative and flexibility, and determination to see a task through to completion A natural mentor and coach who values personal relationships across the whole business A confident, engaging communicator able to influence and lead high level meetings Able to remain focused under pressure Capable of representing a world class automotive brand Must be fluent in the English language Additional Information: L3 PG driving permit required to define, develop and verify combined vehicle dynamics attribute Hiring manager : Simon Newton Grade : SP1 Expert (M benefits) Positions : One Please Note: Applications from employees currently at risk of redundancy will be given priority in line with our redeployment policy Belong at Aston Martin At Aston Martin, we believe that the stunning beauty, craftsmanship, and artistry that define our brand come from the diverse voices and talents of our extraordinary team.
