Overview
Due to continued success, growth, and new services, vacancies are available in our ISO 17025 accredited chemical laboratory at Odiham, Hampshire. These are for permanent, full time positions across all levels ranging from opportunities for inexperienced, entry level technicians, to more senior chemists requiring technical backgrounds and commercial laboratory analytical experience. For the right candidates, positions have scope for career development and advancement within the laboratory.
Responsibilities
* Preparation and testing samples of oil, lubricants, fuel, etc., and for senior positions, reporting of the results to Clients, in line with Quality Assurance Standards.
* Full on‑job training and instruction will be provided to carry out these duties.
* Preparation of chemical solvent and control/calibration of samples.
* Preparation of test samples and sample testing.
* Maintaining quality control checks.
* Interpreting test results.
* Maintaining good laboratory practices and assisting with general housekeeping duties.
* Disposal of used chemicals and test samples.
Skills
* Enthusiastic, motivated, with a willingness to learn, who use initiative and think independently.
* Interest in Chemistry – for more senior positions a degree in a scientific discipline, normally Chemistry.
* For senior positions, normally a technical background and analytical experience in the oil industry and commercial laboratories.
* Careful and methodical worker, with good attention to detail.
* Ability to work to deadlines, in a fast‑paced and routine environment.
* Neat handwriting and good standard of both Maths and English.
* PC literate, with some experience in using Microsoft Office.
* Ability to work in a team and to communicate with all levels of staff and, for more senior positions, Clients.
* Familiar with and committed to quality assurance.
Hours and Pay
Starting salaries range from £26,000 to £29,500 pa subject to skills, qualifications, and experience. These are reviewed after successful completion of the probation period, and yearly thereafter.
Lab technicians operate various working shifts. The following hours are arranged in a four‑week rota:
* Two weeks out of four: Monday to Friday, 37½ hours per week, 7½ hours plus a one‑hour unpaid lunch break per day, daytime start and end times as agreed with the manager/supervisor.
* One week out of four includes a normal 7½ hour working day on Saturday, currently 8:00 am to 4:00 pm including a ½ hour unpaid lunch break, with one day taken off in lieu during the week or the following week.
* One week out of four includes late shift working Monday to Friday, currently 1.30 pm to 10.00 pm, including a one‑hour unpaid lunch break.
