The Trainee Survey Technician will assist with the preparation, maintenance, and configuration of survey and positioning equipment prior to offshore mobilisation. Working within the workshop based in Dyce, Aberdeen. The trainee will gain practical experience in assembling survey spreads, interfacing hardware with survey computers, carrying out basic system testing, and supporting vessel mobilisation and demobilisation activities. This role is suited to an individual with a strong interest in electrical or electronic engineering, who is motivated to develop technical skills and pursue a career working offshore. The position will consist of an initial 12-month structured training period within the workshop, where the trainee will develop a solid foundation in survey equipment, systems integration, and operational procedures. This will be followed by an additional 12 months of continued development, with the aim of transitioning into the offshore field pool on a full-time basis once the required competencies have been achieved Duties & Responsibilities Prepare survey and positioning equipment in accordance with departmental procedures, including verification of equipment completeness, configuration, testing, packaging, and maintaining accurate records. Check, maintain, and support the setup of bench tests for full positioning systems. Assist with the assembly, integration, and testing of new survey and positioning equipment, ensuring systems are configured and functioning correctly prior to deployment. Assist with the outbound and inbound logistics of offshore survey equipment. Support and assist with quayside vessel mobilisations and demobilisations of positioning equipment. Turn around demobilised equipment ready for the next assignment, ensuring it is returned to its original state and any rental equipment is returned to vendors. Assist with equipment inspection, minor repairs, and cleaning where required. Service and prepare survey computers between projects to ensure they are operational and ready for deployment. Assist with the installation of survey and positioning equipment on vessels at the quayside in accordance with departmental procedures. Assist with the removal of survey and positioning equipment from vessels at the quayside in accordance with departmental procedures. Requirements (E - Essential / P - Preferred) HNC/HND in a relevant discipline (e.g., Electrical, Electronic, or Engineering) would be advantageous. (P) Basic knowledge of electro-technical and electronic components and principles. (P) Hands-on technical ability, including the use of basic testing equipment (e.g., multimeters), soldering, and cable termination/splicing. (P) Basic fault-finding and problem-solving abilities. (P) Full UK Driving Licence. (E) Good planning and organisational skills. (E) Competent user of the MS Office Suite. (P) Good communication skills, both written and verbal. (E) Willingness and ability to work flexible hours as required by operational needs. (E)
