Junior Electrical Design Engineer
Location: Kingston Upon Thames
Salary: £30,000 - £40,000
My client is seeking a motivated Junior Electrical Design Engineer to support the growth of its mechanical and electrical division. This role provides hands-on involvement in all stages of electrical design, from early concept development to project completion. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will build practical skills and gain exposure to a wide range of engineering activities, with excellent opportunities for further training and progression toward professional accreditation.
Key responsibilities:
Assist in the design of electrical systems for major infrastructure projects, including low- and high-voltage systems, lighting, earthing, and associated components
Produce feasibility studies, design calculations, and technical documentation
Support site surveys and contract administration activities
Use industry-standard tools such as ETAP, Trimble, and Dialux for modelling and analysis
Work collaboratively with senior engineers and multidisciplinary project teams to refine and develop design solutions
Contribute to the development of efficient, sustainable electrical engineering designs
Adhere to internal quality, safety, and compliance procedures throughout all project stagesWhat we’re looking for:
A degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Building Services EngineeringNote: Degrees focused mainly on electronics, with limited electrical engineering content, are not suitable
Solid understanding of core electrical design principles
A minimum of 3 years experience in a similar role
Practical experience is beneficial but not mandatory
Ability to manage individual tasks effectively while contributing positively to team objectives
Knowledge of electrical theory including distribution systems, lighting, and earthing
Familiarity with design software such as ETAP, Trimble, and Dialux
Strong attention to detail with a proactive, problem-solving approach
Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
Good communication skills and the ability to work with a range of stakeholders.
