Design Engineer Full-Time
FTC – 9-12 months
Location – Office Based in Lancaster
Join a specialist GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) product designer and build company, serving the UK market for over 40 years. They manufacture durable, customisable enclosures, kiosks, and gatehouses for sectors including rail, highways, utilities, and construction. They are part of a larger Industries Group. They offer design-and-build services, focusing on providing reliable, weatherproof, and corrosion-resistant space solutions.
We’re seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Design Engineer to join our client on a 9–12 month fixed-term contract, offering a strong pathway to a permanent role. You will be instrumental in the complete cycle of design, refinement, and documentation for their modular buildings and enclosures, ensuring efficiency and quality across all stages.
Responsibilities, but are not limited to
* Drive the shift towards Parametric Design and configuration (using PDM/Vault systems) to eliminate time-consuming, bespoke work currently done in AutoCAD
* Produce and manage full technical packs, including 3D/2D Manufacturing Drawings, cutting lists, and highly accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) that link directly to our ERP systems
* Optimise new and existing designs (GRP Gatehouses, enclosures, special projects) for efficient manufacture, cost reduction, and superior build quality
* Ensure all designs comply with relevant UK building regulations, legislation, and ISO 9001 standards
* Act as the primary technical contact for client approvals, providing clear Customer Approval Drawings
* Work proactively with the production team, providing support and advice to optimize the workflow for multi-material processes (timber framing, GRP hand-laying, weldments)
Experiences required
* A relevant engineering qualification (e.g., BEng or equivalent)
* Minimum of two (2) years' professional experience in Building Services, Construction, or Engineering Manufacturing
* Mandatory proficiency in SolidWorks Parametric Modelling, including experience with complex weldments and timber structures. Experience with AutoCAD is also desirable
* Practical experience with PDM/PLM systems for configuration and revision control
* Strong understanding of manufacturing processes involving multiple materials, including GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic), timber, and steel framing
* Ability to create accurate BOMs (Bills of Materials) and costings
* Knowledge of M&E (Mechanical & Electrical) systems is beneficial
