1:1 Teaching Assistant Supporting a Student with Complex Needs
Start Date:September 2025
Hours:8:30am12:30pm, Monday to Friday
Rate:£25£27 per hour (depending on experience)
About the Role
Classroom Teachers Ltd are seeking a compassionate and dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a student with profound and multiple complex needs in a school setting. 3 hours per day, 5 days a week.
The student is 14 years old and has cerebral palsy, is non-verbal, and has limited movement. Further details will be shared with shortlisted candidates. The successful candidate will play a vital role in enabling the student to access learning, communicate their needs, and engage with peers throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide 1:1 support to help the student access learning and communicate effectively.
* Ensure the student is positioned comfortably and safely to maximise classroom engagement.
* Facilitate social interaction and play during break times.
* Support the student on school trips and external activities.
* Work closely with school staff and the therapy team, including Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and Speech & Language Therapists.
* Use the Eye Gaze device and other communication tools consistently throughout sessions.
* Maintain clear records of support provided and progress made, in line with therapy guidance.
* Support the student's ongoing rehabilitation as outlined by the school, family, and therapy team.
* Attend on-site training sessions delivered by the therapy team, as required.
Person Specification
* Previous experience supporting children with SEN; knowledge of cerebral palsy is essential.
* Understanding of brain injury and complex needs is highly desirable.
* Strong communication skills with school staff, therapists, family members, case managers, and agencies.
* A proactive, positive attitude and willingness to undertake role-specific training.
* Basic IT skills for recording daily notes and reports.
* An up-to-date Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one) is essential.
