Job Description
The Deckhand is the seaman on board the vessel responsible for performing daily seafaring duties. The Deckhand reports to the Master and assists the Mate or Engineer as directed.
The main duties of the Deckhand include:
* Mooring and unmooring the vessel safely and efficiently; operating windlass, capstan, shore-ramps, and bow visors;
* Maintaining a lookout during passage, day or night, as instructed by the Master or Mate; assisting the bridge team in navigation safety, collision prevention, pollution avoidance, and passenger safety;
* Operating watertight doors and participating in emergency response teams;
* Managing fire-fighting equipment and life-saving devices; assisting with passenger muster and disembarkation;
* Supporting safety procedures, including securing cargo, vehicle, and mail, sounding tanks and spaces, and other safety-related tasks to ensure the safety of passengers, crew, and the vessel.

Requirements
* Post Grade: G
* Salary includes Distant Islands Allowance (£2859/year pro-rata), contracted overtime, and unsocial hours allowance.
* Full-time, permanent position, 157.05 hours/month, working a 2-week on, 2-week off shift pattern;
* No relocation package is offered;
* Interview expenses will be paid from within Shetland;
* Must be able to travel across Shetland at short notice, often with limited public transport;
* Flexible working arrangements are welcomed.
