Job overview
The Gynaecology Directorate is looking to appoint 2 full-time Consultant Subspecialists in Gynaecological Oncology. The successful candidate will join the Oncology Team, which includes a Subspecialist Gynaecology Oncologist, Oncology Unit Level Lead, and Clinical Nurse Specialists. The Oncology service is a specialist tertiary centre providing services at Wolverhampton and Dudley.
The candidate will be expected to be an active member of the Gynaecological Oncology team in clinic, the ward and operating theatres. Participation in the on-call Gynaecology rota is expected. Evidence of experience in advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques and supra-radical surgery in Gynaecological oncology would be highly desirable. The post will have 10 programmed activities (PAs) with potential for additional PAs by negotiation.
Main duties of the job
* Provide clinical consultations for oncology patients at Wolverhampton and at tertiary centres.
* Provide surgical interventions for complex oncology cases.
* Participate in MDT meetings.
* Provide a service in Gynaecological Oncology in conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues.
* Contribute to the out-of-hours on-call service for the department, including telephone advice and major incidents.
* Maintain the department’s regional reputation as a leading provider for robotic surgery in Gynaecology Oncology, alongside existing Consultants.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Provide a service in Gynaecological Oncology in conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues.
* Partake in the out-of-hours On-Call service for the department (telephone advice and major incidents).
* Provide cover for colleagues during periods of leave.
* Maintain the department’s reputation for robotic surgery in Gynaecology Oncology.
* Engage in medical audit and research as appropriate.
* Ensure clinical governance requirements are met.
* Ensure effective contact arrangements for hospital staff involved in patient care.
* Contribute to professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
* Support teaching, examination and accreditation duties for junior medical staff as required.
Person specification
Educational Qualifications
* Full GMC registration and licence to practice.
* On the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT from date of interview.
* MRCOG.
* Completed subspecialty training accreditation in Gynaecological Oncology or equivalent.
* Higher Medical Degree.
Experience
* Competent in managing complex Gynaecological Oncology cases including open and minimally invasive approaches.
* Experience in robotic surgery.
Research and Audit
* Evidence of audit/research and implementation of change following the audit.
* Relevant research published in peer-reviewed journals.
Education and Teaching
* Evidence of contributing to departmental teaching programmes.
