Offer description

Do you have a passion for sound and live performance? We're looking for an experienced Performing Arts Technician (Sound) to join the technical team within the Operations and Events Department at GSA.

In this role, you'll bring specialist expertise to support the delivery of GSA's programmes, with a particular focus on theatre productions, technical lectures, and live events. The technical team also provides equipment, mentoring, and maintenance support, ensuring excellence across all GSA activities. Providing an outstanding student experience is central to everything we do.

Hours are typically Monday-Friday, 9-5, with some flexibility around production schedules.

About you

You'll bring professional experience of working within a sound department on varied live productions, ideally with some experience in a Conservatoire or Higher Education setting.

As an experienced sound technician, you'll have:

* Knowledge of current practices and techniques in professional theatre and live entertainment
* Strong administrative, pastoral, and interpersonal skills
* The ability to supervise, mentor, and support students and freelance staff
* Experience assisting with technical lectures and supporting student learning
* Experience managing equipment, budgets, and maintenance
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage your own workload

You'll also have up-to-date knowledge of Health & Safety and a commitment to promoting safe working and inclusive practices.

What we can offer

At GSA, part of the University of Surrey, you'll be joining one of the UK's leading drama schools in an inspiring and collaborative environment, where your expertise will directly contribute to shaping the future of theatre and performance. In addition to salary, you will receive a yearly incremental pay rise, generous annual leave entitlement and pension, access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes, and supportive family friendly benefits including an excellent on-site nursery.

We encourage continued professional practice through external work where possible and we have opportunities to work with both future professionals and established industry practitioners on GSA Productions.

Further Information

To apply, please upload a CV and covering letter to the University website. You will also be asked some brief questions to help us understand your suitability for the role.

For an informal discussion about this post, please contact Sarah Sage, Theatre Technical Manager at

Interviews will be held on campus 30th October.
