Summary We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Commercial Assistant Degree Apprentice to join our Commercial Rail account based in Manchester. Wage £26,352 a year Check minimum wage rates (opens in new tab) Training course Construction quantity surveyor (degree) (level 6) Hours Monday-Friday 9am -5pm occasional Nights and Weekend. 40 hours a week Start date Tuesday 1 September 2026 Duration 3 years 4 months Positions available 1 Work Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience. What you'll do at work At the discretion of the business, the individual may be periodically rotated across accounts, offices or technical disciplines to gain a variety of experience as part of their general competence development. To assist in the daily commercial and contractual aspects of the contracts managed by the Project Triangles which may include: Apply the Amey “Zero Code” Safety Culture and support delivery of the account Target Zero Action Plans. Assist in the commercial best practice with risk, change, cost, and value management and financial monitoring of the project. Assist the Commercial and Procurement teams in all aspects of subcontract procurement and payment in accordance with governance and fair payment processes. Gather and collate records of all work done / contemporaneous records. Assist with prompt submission of applications for payment to clients. Assist in submitting in a timely manner Change Requests, with price and programme effects, collating contemporary records, for subsequent agreement as directed. Work within time periods required under the Contract(s) and as required by the Company. Adhere to all company polices and to the Amey systems, processes, and procedures. Attend formal Apprenticeship training sessions when necessary. Participate in regular monthly safety meetings and always adhere to the health and safety policy. Training provider UNIVERSITY OF SALFORD, THE Training course Construction quantity surveyor (degree) (level 6) Understanding apprenticeship levels (opens in new tab) What you'll learn Course contents Be able to apply and evaluate the principles for the avoidance of conflict and dispute resolution such as adjudication and arbitration between project stakeholders Be able to identify and manage risks of health, safety and welfare in line with legislation, hazards and safe systems of work Analyse costs and benefits of sustainability initiatives on a project Be able to advise on the legal aspects of a project and the most suitable form of contract to be used to ensure fairness and efficiency Be able to advise on the most suitable construction solutions that maximise value for clients and enhance the cost effectiveness of the project within the budget constraints Be able to advise on the appropriateness of various procurement routes and manage and report on the tendering and negotiation processes to select specialist contractors Advise on appropriate methods of measurement of completed works and issue documentation required for payment to specialist contractors and income from client Advise construction team and the client on strategies to control predicted expenditure in line with the budget Carry out risk assessments and implement strategies to mitigate risk Monitor, report and advise construction team on project cashflows and profitability. Evaluate and advise on financial implications of decisions during the construction phase Assess, interpret and report on progress and assist in the control of programmes during the construction phase Training schedule As part of your Apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto a Construction Quantity Surveyor level 6 apprenticeship which will take approximately 40 months to complete. You will be fully supported by our partnered college to achieve this qualification, having 1-2-1 advice and support, e-learning materials, and a whole team of experts on hand for advice and technical knowledge at your office. Requirements Essential qualifications A Level in: Maths, English and Science (grade C or above) Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
