Senior Director, Competition Enforcement
Competition and Markets Authority
Salary: Between £132,618 and £149,999 per annum
Location: Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, London or Manchester
About Us
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is the UK's principal competition and consumer protection authority that drives market outcomes that benefit people, businesses and the UK economy. Our work is high profile, continually evolving and intellectually stimulating with a regular presence in national media and of interest around the world. We are facing far-reaching changes in our external operating environment and equally material changes to our own responsibilities and functions. Alongside our existing competition law enforcement, mergers and markets regime powers, the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act gives us significant new powers to enforce consumer protection law and to promote competition in digital markets.

In this landscape, our Competition Enforcement function remains at the core of our work as an agency: tackling illegal conduct that raise prices and reduces consumer choice and tilts the playing field against fair-dealing businesses. Whether through detecting secret cartels or reining in abuses of market power, our cases send a strong message to those who are tempted to stray over the line and serve to promote competitive and dynamic markets. We also have an important and growing role to play in supporting businesses to develop good practice.

Your role
As a Senior Director, you will play a key role in the strategic leadership of the Competition Enforcement directorate, with responsibility for developing and delivering the portfolio of Competition Enforcement cases. You will work in close partnership with the Senior Executive Team and the Board and build strong relationships with external bodies, including international and national competition and regulatory authorities to deliver impactful outcomes for people, businesses and the UK economy.

You will have oversight of a multi-disciplinary teams of professionals including lawyers, investigators and economists to ensure that the CMA maintains the highest standards of analytical rigour and procedural fairness in its Competition Enforcement cases, as well as being a visible, inclusive and empowering leader to staff.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the CMA's Competition Enforcement policy and practice to ensure we continually improve the way we work.

About You
You will bring to the role exceptional knowledge and experience in competition enforcement cases, whether leading on the delivery of cases or of legal or economic advice). You will be a strong leader with the ability to empower and inspire others to deliver impactful outcomes. We expect you to demonstrate a measurable track record of taking strategic decisions, managing risks proactively and operating effectively, both strategically and tactically, within strict resource constraints. A highly credible individual, you have the ability to work collaboratively and your communication and influencing skills will equip you to represent the CMA externally at a senior level including the ability to present complex messages through a range of media.

The Benefits
Your benefits package will include a competitive contributory pension scheme and generous annual leave, plus opportunities for flexible and hybrid working. The package also includes access to season ticket and bicycle loans. The Civil Service is committed to becoming the most inclusive employer in the UK and we want to maximise the potential of everyone who chooses to work for us. In return for your dedication, you will enjoy our commitment to your career and development.

Company
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) promotes competition to make markets work well for consumers, businesses and the economy. Our work is complex and compelling and can benefit the lives of everyone in the UK.
