Visit www.cargomatic.com to learn more. Cargomatic is seeking a Planning Specialist to support our dispatch teams across multiple terminals. This role focuses on the behind-the-scenes coordination of drayage operations, ensuring that loads, schedules, and appointment times are efficiently planned at ports and rail yards. The Planning Specialist will not communicate directly with drivers but will play a key role in enabling dispatchers to focus on driver management while maintaining smooth operational flow. This is a critical role in helping our teams reduce burnout, improve planning accuracy, and increase capacity for growth. Key Responsibilities Coordinate logistics appointment scheduling at ports, rails, and customer facilities for drayage loads. Manage load planning 2-3 days in advance to ensure drivers are effectively assigned and itineraries are optimized, minimizing total cost and maximizing asset utilization (drivers, vehicles and equipment) using software Work with dispatchers to align schedules, delivery windows, and customer requirements. Monitor real-time deliveries and problem solves for conflicts (delays, traffic etc…) to maintain smooth operations Monitor appointment systems, port/rail availability, and other scheduling issues and update plans accordingly. Communicate internally with operations, customer service, and support teams to ensure timely execution. Anticipate potential bottlenecks (port congestion, rail delays, driver availability) and adjust plans accordingly. Assist with tracking and reporting metrics around appointments, load completion, cost reduction, and planning efficiency. Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures. Qualifications Transportation experience required. Drayage or intermodal experience preferred (ports, rails, or containerized freight). Experience with dispatch planning, scheduling, or load coordination is strongly preferred. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with a focus on detail. Ability to work in fast-paced, high-volume environments across multiple time zones. Comfort with transportation management systems (TMS), preferably including Trinium, familiarity with planning & optimization, and trading partner portals. Effective written and verbal communication skills for internal collaboration. College degree preferred; practical operations experience is required. The expected salary range for this role is $45,000-70,000. The actual base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
