Temporary School Caretaker
Location: New Malden, South West London (Primary School)
Pay Rate: £104 - £125 per day
Contract Duration: Immediate start with a long-term commitment expected until at least Easter 2026
A friendly primary school in New Malden is seeking a proactive and dependable Caretaker to join their team. This position has been created to provide essential cover for the school's Premises Manager and requires an individual ready to hit the ground running.
This is a vital role in ensuring the school remains a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for both staff and pupils. While initially covering an absence, the contract has now been extended to provide stability throughout the spring term.
Key Responsibilities
Site Maintenance: Handling general DIY tasks, light repairs, and odd jobs such as replacing bulbs or fixing classroom fixtures.
Operational Support: Assisting with the daily setup and breakdown of the dining hall, including moving tables and chairs.
Grounds Upkeep: Ensuring all external areas and playgrounds are kept tidy and free of debris.
Security: Managing daily opening and closing procedures, performing site checks, and monitoring building safety.
Team Collaboration: Working closely with the school leadership team to address any urgent site issues.
Essential Requirements
DBS Certification: A valid Enhanced DBS check is strictly required. Ideally, you will be registered on the Update Service or hold a certificate issued within the past three months.
Experience: Previous background in caretaking, facilities management, or general maintenance is essential-experience within an educational setting is highly desirable.
Practical Skills: Confident in performing basic repairs and specialising in maintaining a functional environment.
Reliability: A proactive attitude and the ability to work independently to manage a busy site.
Safeguarding: A firm commitment to the safety and welfare of children within a school setting.
