Research assistant - Fixed Term

Veterinary Epidemiology, Economics & Public Health Group

This role is a Fixed-Term role

We have an exciting opportunity within the equine epidemiology team of the Veterinary Epidemiology, Economics and Public Health group for an enthusiastic and motivated self-starter to work on a large-scale Horserace Betting Levy Board-funded project investigating the epidemiology of musculoskeletal injuries in both Flat and National Hunt racehorses in training. The postholder will be responsible for practical tasks associated with the day-to-day running of the project, including data collection, data entry and processing, preliminary analyses and communicating research outputs. They will be required to liaise closely with project participants and industry stakeholders. The project provides a unique opportunity to join a well-established and dynamic research team dedicated to improving the health, welfare and safety of racehorses in Great Britain.

Our ideal candidate will be a proactive, adaptable team-player with a veterinary or relevant biological sciences degree and/or post-graduate qualification and previous experience of conducting research. Excellent organisational and interpersonal communication skills are essential for this role, and the postholder must be comfortable liaising with stakeholders across the industry. Previous experience of conducting observational epidemiological research and/or statistical analyses is desirable, as is some knowledge and understanding of the racing industry. In return, we offer a supportive environment to develop your skills within an expert research group working on a variety of high-priority Thoroughbred health and welfare projects.

We offer a generous reward package and benefits including:

1. Competitive and attractive pension package
2. A range of family friendly policies, including adoption, maternity and paternity pay and leave.
3. On site café and restaurant
4. Free membership to the newly built Fitness and Wellbeing Centre located on site (gym, badminton, climbing wall, Zumba, yoga, and Pilates classes included)
5. Cycle to work scheme.
6. Free mini-bus service to and from Potters Bar station and Hawkshead Campus
