Overview

Chesterfield Birth Centre Coordinator - Development post (6 months).

The Birth Centre Coordinator provides clinical leadership and management of the Birth Centre, ensuring the provision of high quality evidence based care. The role requires 24 hour cover, offering advice and management to hospital and community teams out of normal working hours. To work closely with the Birth Centre Ward Leader, in reviewing working practices and ensuring the Birth Centre is offering up to date modern maternity care. There is also responsibility to support governance processes and supporting education of staff.


Responsibilities

* The post holder is directly responsible to the Ward Leader for the continuing clinical management, organisation and leadership of Chesterfield Birth Centre, in their absence.
* Facilitate the provision of high quality, evidence based care and promote and support the ethos of midwife led intrapartum care.
* Carry a bleep and provide senior advice and guidance to all areas of the maternity service, throughout the twenty four hour period.
* Support the education and development of junior staff and students, and lead on specific projects as required.
* Contribute to the achievement of key performance indicators, targets and service developments relevant to area of responsibility.


Qualifications and Experience

* Essential — Current Registered Midwife
* Mentorship qualification
* Relevant 1st degree or equivalent experience (or working towards)
* Evidence of post registration experience
* Desirable — ALSO (Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics)
* NLS (Neonatal Life Support)
* CTG Masterclass
* Examination of the Neonate Qualification


Experience

* Essential — Significant midwifery experience including Intrapartum
* Evidence of Multidisciplinary working and decision making
* Desirable — Previous Management/Leadership Experience
* Recent experience of working in all areas of maternity service


Skills and Knowledge

* Essential — Promote effective teamwork
* Act as a role model
* Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively
* High standard of written communication skills
* Good Leadership and organisational skills
* Desirable — Counselling skills, IT Literacy, Budget Management


Personal Attributes

* Ability to exercise initiative
* Ability to respond positively in stressful situations
* Demonstrates commitment to personal/professional development
