The Credit Control team sits within the Finance, Planning and Data Insight section, which is responsible for managing the University’s income and expenditure, ensuring value for money and compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements. The Credit Control team plays a key role in supporting the University’s financial sustainability through the effective management of debt recovery and income collection. The team currently has 5 team members, an Income Manager and four Credit Controllers who work closely with colleagues across Finance, Planning and Data Insight and other stakeholders including Accommodation, Student Support and academic departments, to provide a professional, customer focused service to students and external customers.
Duties of the Role
The Credit Controller is responsible for delivering a professional and customer focused credit control service, managing debt recovery activities in line with the University’s debt management policies and procedures.
The role involves proactively chasing outstanding debts, analysing ledger reports, negotiating and monitoring payment plans, and maintaining accurate records on the finance system.
You will work closely with internal stakeholders to resolve queries, support income collection, reduce aged debt, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements including GDPR and anti-money laundering legislation, and contribute to continuous improvement of credit control processes.
Skills and qualifications required
The successful candidate will have a good standard of education, including GCSEs (or equivalent), and relevant experience within a credit control or finance environment.
You will demonstrate strong numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret financial information and explain it clearly to customers. Excellent organisational, communication and IT skills are essential, along with the ability to manage competing priorities, work effectively both independently and as part of a team, and deliver a consistently high standard of customer service.
