Job Summary
Bridge Cottage Surgery is recruiting a salaried GP for part or full‑time. The practice is a large semi‑rural training clinic in Welwyn, Hertfordshire, with a mixed primary healthcare team.
Responsibilities
* Undertake surgery consultations, telephone consultations and patient queries, including home visits.
* Check and sign repeat prescriptions and handle paperwork and correspondence promptly.
* Make professional, autonomous decisions regarding presenting problems, whether self‑referrals or referrals from other healthcare workers.
* Assess health‑care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
* Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
* Develop care plans in line with current disease‑management protocols.
* Provide counselling and health education to patients and carers.
* Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
* Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
* Collect data for audit purposes.
* Compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions, avoiding handwritten prescriptions whenever possible.
* Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) when clinically appropriate.
Other Responsibilities Within the Organisation
* Comply with all relevant practice policies and guidelines, including prescribing, confidentiality, data protection and health and safety.
* Commit to lifelong learning and audit to ensure evidence‑based best practice.
* Contribute to evaluation, audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation.
* Assist in developing computer‑based patient records and summarising patient data using Read‑Coding.
* Attend training and events organised by the practice or other agencies where appropriate.
Qualifications and Experience
* Post‑graduate qualification in General Practice and completion of vocational training.
* Full registration with the GMC and a recognised medical defence organisation.
* Registered and approved on the Medical Performers List.
* Enhanced DBS check required before employment.
* Excellent clinical, communication and interpersonal skills.
* Willingness to contribute to multi‑professional working and to work well within the practice team.
* Evidence of accountability and experience working with Partners towards QOF, PCN and national services.
* Understanding of the principles of clinical audit.
* Knowledge of IT clinical systems (SystmOne) (desirable).
* Experience in end‑of‑life care for patients (desirable).
* Applicants must have current UK professional registration.
