GCSE Tutor Salary: £25 - £35 per hour Job Description The role of GCSE Tutor involves providing targeted academic support to students preparing for their General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) examinations. The tutor works closely with learners to develop their understanding of subject matter, improve exam techniques, and build confidence. This position requires the delivery of personalised learning plans, assessment of student progress, and adaptation of teaching methods to meet individual needs. The role is temporary and part-time, based in Greater London. Job Duties Deliver engaging and effective tuition sessions tailored to the specific GCSE subjects and individual student requirements. Assess student knowledge and skills regularly to identify areas for improvement and track progress. Develop bespoke learning materials and resources to support varied learning styles and abilities. Provide constructive feedback and guidance to help students improve their academic performance and exam techniques. Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, student progress, and attendance. Communicate clearly and professionally with students and, where appropriate, their parents or guardians regarding progress and areas for development. Stay informed of the latest GCSE curriculum changes and examination requirements to ensure up-to-date guidance. Foster a positive and motivating learning environment to encourage student engagement and confidence. Required Qualifications Minimum of a Level 3 qualification in Education, Teaching, or a relevant subject area. Strong subject knowledge in one or more GCSE subjects, such as English, Mathematics, Science, or Humanities. Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check or willingness to obtain one prior to commencing employment. Education Completion of secondary education with GCSEs at grades 4 (C) or above in core subjects is essential. Further qualifications in education, teaching, or related disciplines are highly desirable. Experience Demonstrable experience tutoring or teaching GCSE students in a formal or informal setting. Experience in developing tailored lesson plans and adapting teaching methods to individual learner needs. Previous experience working with young people aged 14 to 16 is preferred. Knowledge and Skills Comprehensive knowledge of the GCSE curriculum and examination standards. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire students. Strong organisational skills to manage lesson planning and student progress tracking effectively. Patience, adaptability, and the capacity to work with learners of varying abilities and backgrounds. Proficient in the use of digital teaching tools and resources to enhance learning. Preferred Qualifications Teaching qualification such as a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) or equivalent. Experience with online or remote tutoring platforms. Additional qualifications or specialisms related to GCSE subjects. Working Conditions Part-time hours with flexible scheduling to accommodate student availability. Work takes place primarily in private tuition settings, which may include students’ homes, tuition centres, or online. The role may require occasional evening or weekend sessions.
