Job description
Our client, a leading organisation in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a skilled Hardware Engineer with expertise in electronics design for a contract role. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on advanced projects requiring a deep understanding of system requirements and hardware development.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Interpretation of system requirements and decomposition into hardware requirements
2. Conduct electronics and/or firmware development activities and reviews, covering full system, sub-system, and individual board design/coding
3. Ensure technical solutions meet customer, legislative, and business requirements
4. Provide technical oversight of engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle
5. Support team planning and estimation activities at the beginning of new projects
6. Identify and resolve qualification, certification, and safety issues
7. Produce project technical documentation, including management plans, requirement specifications, design documents, interface specifications, and acceptance tests
8. Liaise with customers and suppliers as appropriate
9. Oversee initial test and integration, including formal testing
Role Requirements:
10. Experience across the whole project lifecycle as an electronics/firmware engineer, ideally within the defence sector
11. Hands-on experience in designing complex systems involving multiple electronics disciplines
12. Successful delivery of reliable solutions to timescale and budget as part of fixed-price contracts
13. Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders as part of a multi-disciplinary project team
Additional requirements include:
14. Degree (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline
15. Exposure to analog and digital technologies, design for EMC, electrical safety & signal integrity including schematic and PCB layout
16. Familiarity with one or more PMRP and ECAD tools
17. Experience in design for manufacture and a strong understanding of the full project lifecycle
18. Prototyping, testing, and verification of electronic subsystems at PCB, unit and sub-system level
19. Component selection and an understanding of associated issues including obsolescence and environmental aspects (REACH, RoHS etc.)
20. Capable of acquiring SC clearance as a minimum
Desirable Experience:
21. Design for low noise, low power analogue receiver front ends utilising JFETs and low noise differential amplifiers
22. MicroSemi/Intel FPGA design experience
23. ADC, DAC selection and design
24. Filter design
25. VME/VPX design experience
26. Power amplifier design using SIC FET technology up to 1500V DC
27. Power supply design mains supply and DC-DC converters
28. Cadstar ECAD experience
