This post will support the Paediatric Orthopaedics team (Miss Laura Deriu, Mr Patrick Foster, Mr Colin Holton, Mr John Davies, Miss Adelle Fishlock, Miss Elaine Robinson).
This post will deliver care to patients with Paediatric Trauma and Orthopaedic conditions at the Leeds General Infirmary:
Outpatient clinics
Acute care of paediatric patients
Elective operating with pre-operative and post-operative ward rounds
Supervision of patients
Contribute to Specialist Multi-Disciplinary team meetings
To contribute to the role of Leeds as a Training Centre for National Trainees in Paediatric Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery.
To provide support and clinical expertise to the teams based in referring centres.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant should possess the Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery (FRCS Orth) with the Royal College of Surgeons or equivalent and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.
Applicants should have established skills in Paediatric Orthopaedics.A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.
Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

In relation to this post, the post holder will provide support to the Paediatric Trauma and Orthopaedics team. It will therefore ensure the service is able to continue in its pursuit to provide the best levels of care for patients accessing the service on both a trauma and elective basis.
2. OBJECTIVES OF THE POST
This is a 10 PA substantive appointment for a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedics surgeon, with special interests in Paediatric Orthopaedics.

There is no requirement for the post holder to supervise Allied Health Professionals.

Experience
Essential
* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in the management of acute paediatric trauma surgical conditions.
* Specifically, must demonstrate higher training in paediatric trauma and orthopaedics, with experience at consultant level, in managing complex foot deformities (0-16 years), congenital hip problems, complex hip deformities and complex neuromuscular and genetic conditions, including but not limited to Cerebral palsy, Spina Bifida and Arthrogryposis.
* Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.

* MBBS or equivalent qualification.
* FRCS (Trauma & Orth) or equivalent qualification.
* Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.

* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* Is up to date and fit to practise safely.
Desirable
* Higher degree e.g. MD/PhD relevant to the subspecialty.

* Should have completed a recognised training programme in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery.
* At least 2 years higher training in a recognised Paediatric Trauma and Orthopaedic Fellowship program.
* Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
* Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
* Proven experience of training Specialty Registrars in Trauma and Orthopaedics and Fellows in Paediatric Trauma and Orthopaedics.
* Proven experience of involvement in regional/national training.
* Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.
Desirable
* Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
* Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
