Head of Pharmacy, Population Health and Wellbeing (LW)

Fixed Term for 12 Months

Pharmacy and Medicines; Flourishing in Fife

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our talented team at NHS Fife. We are one of the most dynamic health boards in Scotland, providing a full range of primary, community, mental health, acute and elective hospital services for a population of around 370,000 across the Kingdom of Fife. We are rooted in the communities we serve and are driven by our vision to improve the health of our population by developing integrated healthcare services delivered through our highly talented and committed workforce.

We work with local people and partners across health, social care, and the voluntary sector in innovative ways to improve health and wellbeing for all our communities. Our key priority will be to develop closer integrated and collaborative ways of working with all our partners to implement our new Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

We now require an exceptional Head of Pharmacy Population Health and Wellbeing, to fulfil this key senior role which is responsible for the leadership and development of primary care, community pharmacy and public health services, along with specialist services including Pain, Addictions, Rheumatology and BBV in Fife. A key function of this role will be continuing to evolve pharmacy practice across primary care in line with Pharmacotherapy, whilst also developing the other areas of this portfolio. It’s an exciting time to work in pharmacy, and we require a leader to join us who shares this excitement, passion, and enthusiasm for change. The Head of Pharmacy needs to be able to inspire and lead our workforce to ensure our services are fit for the future and deliver the best care for patients.

As an inspirational team leader, you will help to guide a highly engaged team to transform the way we deliver pharmacy services in line with our core values of dignity and respect; care and compassion; openness, honesty, and responsibility; and quality and teamwork.

Reporting to NHS Fife’s Deputy Director of Pharmacy and Medicines, the post holder will also be expected to develop strong collaborative working relationships across the organisation, to support transformation of services. This is vitally important to how we deliver future sustainable health and care services to support people across Fife.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pharmacist to provide dynamic strategic direction and operational leadership, in the planning, management and provision of our clinical pharmacy services.

If you are excited by the prospect of joining one of NHS Scotland’s most dynamic and forward-thinking Boards, and by the opportunity to shape and evolve hospital pharmacy clinical services, we would love to hear from you.

Existing permanent employees must first discuss this opportunity with their substantive line manager. The secondment policy can be found here. If you do not have approval for a secondment from your current line manager, you will not be able to progress your application for a fixed term post. External applicants, with continuous NHS Service, must also have in place a secondment agreement, from their existing board to apply for this post.

For an informal discussion with Fiona Forrest, Acting Director of Pharmacy and Medicines, NHS Fife, or Cara Mackenzie, Deputy Director of Pharmacy and Medicines, please contact Kymm Dingwall, PA to Director of Pharmacy and Medicines on Tel: 01383 674169.

Interview Date: Proposed date for interview 24th November 2025, in person within NHS Fife. Specific location tbc.

To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigration Service.

As part of the pre-employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK. It can be evidenced through a number of routes including specific types of visa as well as EU settled and pre-settled status. To find out more about these routes of permission, please refer to the GOV.UK website.

For specific types of post, if you do not have the necessary eligibility to work in the UK, it might be possible (though not guaranteed) to secure sponsorship via a UK Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker Visa. However, this is only possible if the employer is a licensed Sponsor, and if the post does not fall below the current minimum salary threshold or ‘going rate’. Further information on these criteria can be found here.

It is essential that you have checked that you either already have an appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post would be eligible to be sponsored BEFORE submitting your application form.

We offer flexible working and family-friendly policies and fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long-term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
