Your Role
and What You'll Be Doing
As an Assistant Accountant, you’ll support our client facing accounts team, working closely with the Associate Accountant. You’ll assist in preparing small company accounts and corporation tax returns while providing essential bookkeeping and administrative support.
This role is ideal for someone currently studying AAT and looking to build their experience within an accountancy practice.
This is an onsite role, working 5 days in our Chichester office location.
What You’ll Be Doing
1. Bookkeeping – recording and tracking financial transactions
2. Payroll processing
3. Ensuring all payrolls are completed accurately and on time
4. Preparing quarterly VAT returns
5. Assisting with small company accounts and corporation tax returns, with support from senior team members
6. Preparing financial accounts to trial balance
7. Completing checks to ensure accuracy and compliance
8. Providing general accounting and administrative support to the team
9. Handling client communications and queries
10. Managing day‑to‑day administrative tasks
About You
What We’re Looking For:
11. Ideally currently studying AAT (part qualified) or AAT qualified - this is a minimum requirement.
12. Experience working within an accountancy practice
13. The ability to prepare accounting records to trial balance
14. Experience preparing financial accounts
15. Proven customer‑facing experience
16. Strong track record of meeting deadlines
17. Excellent working knowledge of Excel
18. High level of accuracy and attention to detail
19. Confident communicating with colleagues at all levels
20. Able to work independently and recognise when to escalate issues
21. Willingness to work on‑site in Chichester five days a week for supervision and development
22. Interest in developing skills in personal tax returns (full training provided)
