Overview

You will be working in a team to care for patients requiring cardiothoracic surgery and procedures from a wide and densely populated geographical area on the west midlands of England. The service is 24 hours per day and consultant led. The cardiac intensive care is a 16-bedded ITU with all aspects of cardiac support available. We provide a comprehensive adult cardiothoracic service, including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) performed both on-pump and off-pump. Our service manages a full spectrum of valvular heart disease, with an established and well-recognised programme in valve repair. In addition, we undertake all forms of complex aortic surgery, including emergency surgery for acute and complex aortic dissections. The unit is well staffed allowing for excellent teaching opportunities and the ability to develop team working skills within a multidisciplinary team. You will work in a team of 12 consultants in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and allied health care staff. You will also be encouraged to actively participate in the teaching, quality improvement and research programmes running within the department. The appointed Fellow anaesthetist will also be offered a mentoring opportunity which will be discussed with the successful candidate upon commencement at UHNM.
