Job Overview
We are a growing group of companies with a combined turnover of over £4m, operating in high-end construction and German kitchen retail. Due to rapid growth, we are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to take ownership of our finance function, strengthen our reporting, and support the leadership team with decision-making.
The Role
As Financial Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing all day-to-day finance operations and providing timely, accurate financial information to the directors. You will manage bookkeeping, reporting, and compliance, while introducing improved systems and processes to support continued growth.
This is a hands-on role, suited to someone who enjoys both the detail of transactional work and the challenge of producing management accounts and forecasts.
Key Responsibilities
* Full ownership of the finance function across multiple companies.
* Preparation of monthly management accounts and cashflow forecasts.
* Oversight of sales and purchase ledger, bank reconciliations, and payroll.
* Managing VAT returns, CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) submissions and compliance.
* Project/job costing and margin analysis for construction projects and kitchen installations.
* Budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling to support growth plans.
* Working with external accountants and auditors.
* Providing financial insight and recommendations to the directors.
* Implementing and improving finance systems and processes.
About You
* Qualified accountant (ACCA / CIMA / ICAS) or qualified by experience.
* Proven experience using Xero is essential.
* Strong knowledge of cashflow management, budgeting, and forecasting.
* Background in construction or related industries (preferred) — with understanding of CIS, staged payments, and project costing.
* Excellent attention to detail with strong organisational skills.
* Commercially minded, with the ability to present numbers clearly to non-finance colleagues.
