Senior Rotational Assistant Technical Officer - Pharmacy
We are looking for a Senior Rotational Assistant Technical Officer to join our Pharmacy Team at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
Job Summary
We are looking for a Senior Assistant Technical Officer to join our friendly, forward thinking Pharmacy Team. The Pharmacy Department offers development opportunities within an expanding team of Pharmacy Assistants. This is a Band 3 Dispensing Assistant role with potential involvement in dynamic projects offering professional progression. You will work as part of a team to provide the best possible service for patients, with a friendly and approachable manner. NVQ Level 2 in pharmacy services (or equivalent) and good IT skills are required. This is a full-time post with weekend and Bank Holiday duties as part of a rota.
Main duties of the job
* 4 months rotation in Dispensary Services and Distribution/Stores; assist in safe, efficient running of each section, including audits and quality improvement projects; supervisory role with training and mentoring of Apprentice Technical Officers.
* Accurate dispensing of prescriptions, interacting with patients and healthcare professionals.
* Pharmacy audits and training & supervision of apprentices.
* Carry out daily stock checks in the hospital's out-of-hours drugs room using the Pharmacy robotic cabinet.
* Assist in sorting and checking all returned pharmaceuticals prior to recycling or disposal.
* Ward top up and supply of medicines to wards and clinical areas.
* Processing of ward/department stock requests in accordance with GDP.
* Processing of community orders to offsite clinics.
* Receipting of Pharmacy orders.
* General housekeeping (e.g., filing, replenishing sundries, loading the Pharmacy robot).
Qualifications and Essential Criteria
* Education / Qualifications: NVQ Level 2 in pharmacy services or equivalent; good IT skills; ability to dispense prescriptions accurately; good numerical skills; attention to detail and accuracy.
* Good verbal and written communication skills; supervisory skills; ability to lead and motivate others; good time management and prioritisation; ability to work calmly under pressure; good team working skills; good computing skills (MS Office).
* Experience of working in a busy dispensary and in a customer care environment; demonstrated stock management and stock control; understanding of confidentiality issues; good patient counselling skills.
Desirable
* Problem solving skills; good planning and organising skills; experience of hospital pharmacy; experience of staff training; experience of Pharmacy Distribution and Stores; experience of ward top.
