About the role
This role sits within our Delivery Team and includes face to face teaching based in two locations - Southampton & Hampshire (Millbrook SO16 9RS & Fareham PO15 6PH), we are ideally looking for someone local to both, or London based/within commutable distance. You will be delivering Functional Skills, Maths and English to 16 to 18-year-olds during term time.
We are looking for a successful applicant to have a teaching qualification alongside experience delivering Functional Skills within Study Programmes/Traineeships/Post 16 or similar.
We are flexible as to whether the position is offered as full time or part time and freelance or contract of employment (pay and benefits advertised relate to a full time contract of employment). Actual salary negotiable/dependent on qualifications and experience and will be confirmed at appointment. The role includes;
* Managing a case load of learners through teaching in classes and providing guidance to support them through successful completion of their Functional Skills programme.
* Improve Maths and English from the starting points using initial and diagnostic assessment, to report on distance travelled and on completion distance travelled.
* Deliver training and assessment on Maths and English, in line with individual learning requirements, including advising and reporting on additional learning needs to ensure accurate funding claimed. Work with tutors/skills coaches in ensuring identified Functional Skills development needs are addressed.
Your Responsibilities as a Tutor
* Safeguard all learners and provide an inclusive, welcoming and safe learning environment
* Utilise the initial assessment and diagnostic learning and assessment goals to develop a Functional Skills plan
* Mark all work completed in a timely manner and provide feedback to support progress
* Maintain up-to-date and accurate records on Pass Functional Skills and, as appropriate, on OneFile for each individual learner according to internal procedures
* Support all learners to achieve their best in their Functional Skills programmes and give feedback to the Learner Progress Advisor or Skills Coach for learner progress reviews
* Monitor learner progress, ensuring any challenges are overcome and ensure the learner completes scheduled assessments, tasks and presentations
* Comply with internal quality assurance strategy to ensure teaching, learning and assessments are delivered to a high standard
* Prepare learners for exams in accordance with systems, procedures and quality determined by internal policies, awarding body requirements and ESFA
* Develop and implement scheme of work, teaching and learning resources and session plans
* Raising awareness with learners and employers of the services offered by JGA
* Use naturally occurring opportunities to promote British Values, Prevent, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
Your General Responsibilities
* Comply with the internal quality assurance strategy to ensure assessments are delivered to a high standard
* Ensure the learner completes scheduled assessments, tasks and presentations in a timely fashion
* Where appropriate, contribute to the progress reviews of learners, liaising with the appropriate Coach/Learner Progress Adviser/mentor to ensure that learners' targets are being met and they are progressing
* Attend relevant events and promote the JGA Group products where the opportunity arises
* Undertake professional development activities and training and attend meetings, such as Standardisation, as appropriate to ensure that statutory and regulatory requirements are met
* Undertake any other reasonable request from managers and colleagues
What We're Looking For
* Teaching Qualification (eg, PGCE, Cert Ed, DTTLS, L3 Cert in Education & Training) and a minimum of L2 English and maths
* Good working knowledge of a range of assessment methods, including formative and summative assessment
* Competent in the use of ICT, particularly Microsoft Office programmes
* Ability to learn, understand and convey key features of JGA's training programmes
* Good communication skills at a variety of levels
* Occupational competence and expertise in functional skills with an understanding of functional skills standards and systems
* Ability to work as part of a team and independently
* Solutions focused with attention to detail
* Flexible, enthusiastic and well organised
* Commitment to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of learners
* Maintain professional relationships with all learners
* An assessor qualification (CAVA, D32/33, TAQA, A1) would be desirable
* A Driving License would be preferable
Training will be provided, where required. This role is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and proof of qualifications. An online search may be carried our as part of our recruitment process and commitment to best practise.
