A well-established, forward-thinking environmental and engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Drainage Civil Engineer to join a growing and busy design team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects across the UK, with genuine flexibility around hybrid or fully remote working.
You’ll be part of a collaborative, employee-owned organisation, working closely with senior engineers and a multi-disciplinary design team to deliver high-quality drainage and flood risk solutions for a wide range of developments.
The Role
You’ll be involved in the design and delivery of flood risk and drainage projects across sectors including:
Commercial and industrial developments
Waste management facilities and quarries
Renewable energy (solar, BESS, hydrogen production)Key responsibilities include:
Preparing Flood Risk Assessments to support planning applications
Producing drainage strategy reports for planning
Detailed design of surface water and foul drainage systems
Collaborating with engineers, planners, clients, and third parties to deliver cost-effective solutions
Supporting wider civil and geotechnical design work when required
Liaising with statutory bodies (local authorities, highways teams, water authorities)About You
This role would suit someone with a strong technical grounding in drainage and flood risk, and a proactive, collaborative approach.
Essential experience and skills:
Proficiency in Infodrainage / MicroDrainage (or equivalent)
Strong knowledge of current UK drainage design standards and guidance
Experience designing SuDS in line with CIRIA C753
Experience producing Flood Risk Assessments compliant with NPPF / EA guidance and TAN15 (NRW)
Understanding of the UK regulatory and planning context for flood risk
Experience producing drainage strategies to current regulatory requirements
Previous use of GIS software
Confident report writer and communicatorBackground:
Ideally around 2+ years’ experience in a consultancy environment (flexible for strong candidates at other levels)
Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or Environmental Science (or similar)Desirable (not essential – training available):
1D/2D hydraulic modelling experience
Familiarity with HEC-RAS, Flood Modeller, Plaxis 2D, Civil 3D
Knowledge of road design (DMRB or wider civil engineering design)Why Apply?
