Job overview
We are currently seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our male low secure unit for mental illness. You would work as the consultant on the assessment ward and would work alongside our part time consultant on the rehabilitation ward.
The Inpatient team on the Kedleston Unit delivers comprehensive, multidisciplinary care and risk management for patients who present a risk of harm to others in the context of a serious mental disorder.
There are beds at the Kedleston Unit across 2 wards
5. Curzon ward is an eight-bedded assessment ward
6. Scarsdale ward is a twelve-bedded rehabilitation ward
You will work alongside a full multidisciplinary team (MDT) including psychologists, occupational therapists, nurses, social workers and junior doctors.
You will closely with the Forensic Consultants and Multi Agency Professional Approved Clinician (MPAC) working in our Community Forensic Team as well as the Consultant in our new male PICU ward.
Derbyshire is part of the IMPACT Provider Collaborative (East Midlands adult secure care). We aim to improve secure care patient pathways, the interfaces between the health, social care and criminal justice system and provide on-going service development:
Access to structured mentorship and support for newly qualified Consultants will be provided and lead by our Care Group Clinical Director.
At Derbyshire Healthcare you will be part of a new medical leadership team deeply engaged in practice and service development.
Main duties of the job
Within your role:
7. Complete access assessments to support the Single Point of Access Process within the Provider Collaborative.
8. Provide Forensic clinical leadership with robust interagency working with the statutory agencies involved in managing high risk patients in inpatient and community settings.
9. Forensic assessments and second opinions on risk management of male and female Derbyshire patients, shared with the other Forensic Consultants.
10. Curzon Consultant is expected to provide clinical oversight of the Criminal Justice Pathway, support the Liaison & Diversion Service and build close links with the PICU Team.
11. Scarsdale Consultant is expected provide clinical oversight of the rehabilitation pathway using GIRFT principles and build close links with the Rehabilitation Service
12. Weekly Community MDT meetings for allocation and case discussion of patients on Mondays
13. Support Trust wide Forensic Supervision Forum with other colleagues
14. Support training of Specialist Registrars and teaching of Medical Students
15. Initiate innovative research and engage in Quality Improvement Projects
