Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for resident doctors to join the Tier 1 paediatric and neonatal team. Successful applicants will gain experience in the sub-regional neonatal intensive care centre (SuRNICC) and the Children’s Unit in North Wales.

Applicants are invited for a full-time Tier 1 post. Successful applicants will join either the 1:9 neonatal rota or the 1:10 paediatric rota.


Main duties of the job

We are a busy and enthusiastic department, committed to delivering top-quality care to children, babies, and parents. The department has a strong reputation for excellent training, with wide-ranging educational support and a focus on personal development.

In neonates, responsibilities include attending deliveries, managing acute admissions, and examining newborns on the post-natal ward. Opportunities to participate in baby clinics and joint specialist clinics are available for outpatient experience. Clinical duties are shared among nine first-on-call staff and rotated regularly.

In paediatrics, responsibilities are shared among ten first-on-call staff and include managing acute admissions to the children’s unit with close senior supervision.

Glan Clwyd Hospital is located in Bodelwyddan, near St Asaph and Rhyl, on the North Wales coast. The area serves a population of over 250,000, which doubles during holiday seasons. The region offers beautiful countryside, including Snowdonia National Park, and rich history with castles and gardens. Nearby towns provide shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Liverpool and Manchester are about an hour’s drive, with direct rail links to London from Rhyl.

Qualifications

* MB BS (or equivalent)
* GMC registration
* Evidence of training progression

Desirable

* Additional qualifications like APLS

Experience

* Completed foundation program (or equivalent outside the UK)

* Experience with UK hospital systems or equivalent

Knowledge

* Understanding of the specialty

Clinical Skills

* History taking and examination skills
* Basic life support and resuscitation

Communication Skills

* Fluent in English, with good oral and written communication
* Ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team

* Good organisational and time management skills
* Ability to function under pressure
