Commercial Manager / Commercial Lead – Major Infrastructure Project (South Wales)

Location: Margam, South Wales
Salary/Package: Competitive + Excellent Benefits
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time

We are recruiting for a Commercial Manager / Commercial Lead to join a leading main contractor delivering a major substation build in South Wales. This is a senior-level role suited to someone with extensive commercial management experience in infrastructure, civil engineering, utilities or energy projects.

This is an outstanding long-term career opportunity to work with a highly respected contractor on a high-profile infrastructure scheme, overseeing commercial performance and leading a substantial commercial team. You will report directly to the Commercial Director and play a key role in the successful delivery of a major programme of works.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead and manage the commercial function for a major substation construction project
2. Oversee cost control, forecasting, budgeting, and contract administration
3. Manage subcontractor procurement, negotiation, valuations and payments
4. Ensure commercial and contractual compliance across all project activities
5. Build strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and internal teams
6. Drive commercial strategy to maximise project value and minimise risk
7. Mentor, support and lead a growing commercial team
8. Provide regular reporting to senior leadership including the Commercial Director

Requirements

9. Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor stepping up
10. Strong background within civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities or energy projects
11. Solid knowledge of NEC contracts (preferred)
12. Track record of leading or supporting commercial teams
13. Strong commercial acumen with excellent communication and negotiation skills
14. Ability to manage complex, large-scale projects with multiple stakeholders
15. Driven, proactive and capable of taking ownership at a senior level
