Lead Occupational Therapist (Complex Rehab Unit) — Broadgreen Hospital (University Hospitals of Liverpool)
Band 7 (Full time/permanent) – 37.5 hours per week
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic Occupational Therapist who is interested in a full-time position as Band 7 Team Lead OT on the Phoenix Rehabilitation Unit at Broadgreen Hospital.
The Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides this unit as part of a hub and spoke arrangement for Cheshire and Merseyside Rehabilitation Network (CMRN). This is a unique collaborative pathway with 7 partners that provides complex rehabilitation to patients following traumatic injury or illness and is based on need, not diagnosis. The pathway goes from hyperacute to community.
The Phoenix Unit on the Broadgreen site provides active rehabilitation for patients with complex functional loss, such as those with ABI, polytrauma, and post‑critical care patients.
The role requires excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with complex patient cases and team/staff situations.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of the CMRN development groups and to contribute to the continued improvement of the pathway. This post will give the staff member opportunities to fully participate in the education, training, audits, research and service development projects undertaken by the CMRN.
There is currently a requirement to work contracted hours over 6 days, Monday‑Saturday.
Main duties of the job
This role involves expert rehabilitation of patients including the following aspects:
* Neurological assessment and rehabilitation techniques
* Cognitive assessment skills
* Posture management
* Splinting
* Fatigue management
* Anxiety management
The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the wider MDT, including social workers and rehab coordinators to aid discharge planning.
You will contribute to the holistic care of the patient including supporting case conferences, best interest meetings and capacity assessments relating to discharge.
You will have the opportunity to provide training to both OT students and other therapy students and to the wider MDT and promote the role of the OT.
The post holder will supervise junior staff, assistants and students.
Senior oversight of therapy team including aspects such as performance reporting, sickness management and supervision.
Participation in CMRN audits, research and personal and staff development.
