Offer description

Overview

We are looking for a dynamic, proactive, experienced clinician to join our friendly team in Bronglais General Hospital, Aberystwyth. The A&E Department provides emergency services to Ceredigion, parts of South Gwynedd, North-West Powys and Pembrokeshire, with seasonal surges due to student and tourist populations. Currently there are approximately 25,000 attendances per annum, with anticipated growth. All patient activity is seen, triaged, and initial treatment and stabilisation commence in the A&E area. After assessment, patients are transferred to the CDU for ongoing monitoring or admitted to an inpatient acute bed, or discharged. All minors are managed in the A&E department. Patients are managed according to clear pathways based on the streams of minor and major treatment needs. This is a busy acute hospital. The successful candidate will work in close conjunction with other consultant physicians in the hospital and the community.

Main duties

We are looking for a colleague who will be committed to providing a high level of clinical care and who, as a senior member of the Health Board, will have the leadership skills needed to work in close cooperation with and in support of clinical, medical and managerial colleagues to ensure high quality, sustainable healthcare to all patients in Mid Wales. A key responsibility for the post will be the display of effective leadership in setting direction for resident doctors. The role will involve clinical investigation, diagnosis and treatment of patients as well as supervising and managing patient flow. The duties also involve updating and maintaining medical records as appropriate.

We are looking for candidates who display the following characteristics:

* Composure under stress
* Attention to detail
* Strong problem solving skills
* Quick, effective decision making
* Effective communication, teamwork and leadership
