This role plays a crucial part in data-driven decision-making and virtual testing across a range of motorsport disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and maintain mathematical and physical models for vehicle systems (e.g., chassis, aerodynamics, powertrain, tires).
* Create and validate simulation tools for lap time prediction, vehicle dynamics, energy management, and driver-in-the-loop simulators.
* Collaborate closely with design, race engineering, and data analysis teams to translate on-track data into actionable insights.
* Perform correlation studies using telemetry, rig, and track data to ensure model accuracy.
* Support race strategy, setup development, and performance predictions through virtual tools.
* Optimize simulation models for both real-time and offline applications.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of simulation workflows and toolchains.
* Document methodologies and provide training and support to other engineering staff.
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field.
* 2+ years of experience in motorsport or automotive simulation and modeling (F1, WEC, Formula E, rally, etc.); graduate roles may be considered for junior positions.
Technical Skills:
* Strong proficiency in modeling tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or C++.
* Experience with multibody dynamics simulation tools (e.g., Dymola, Adams, CarSim, Canopy).
* Understanding of vehicle dynamics, tire behavior, aerodynamics, and/or powertrain systems.
* Familiarity with telemetry systems and motorsport data formats (e.g., MoTeC, Atlas, Wintax).
* Experience with simulation frameworks and race strategy tools is a plus.
Soft Skills:
* Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
* Team player with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Prior experience in a racing environment (trackside or remote).
* Knowledge of driver-in-the-loop simulators and HIL/SIL systems.
