Pullar House, Perth
We are looking for a friendly, motivated, enthusiastic, and reliable individual to join our Housing team as a Caretaker/Handyman.
This role plays a key part in supporting Housing Options a by ensuring properties are safe, clean, and ready for use, while delivering excellent service to tenants and members of the public.
Key Responsibilities
• Carry out minor repairs, maintenance tasks, and general caretaking duties across housing properties.
• Undertaken house removals, and delivery of essential furnishings to new tenancies, this includes, larger items such as beds, fridges and sofas
• Conduct pre-property checks for void temporary accommodation to ensure readiness and safety.
• Perform electric and gas meter top-ups as required to support tenancy start-ups.
• Ensure communal areas are clean, safe, and well-maintained.
• Respond to requests for assistance from tenants and housing staff in a timely and professional manner.
• Report any health and safety concerns, damage, or vandalism to the appropriate team.
• Support housing staff with property inspections and void property preparation.
• Travel between multiple sites across Perth and Kinross as required.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential:
• Friendly and approachable with a positive, “can-do” attitude.
• Use technology confidently to complete tasks, record information, and communicate effectively with colleagues and services.
• Willingness to take initiative and help out wherever needed — no “not my job” mentality.
• Reliable, motivated, and flexible in approach to work.
• Experience working with the public or in a customer-facing role.
• Basic knowledge of building maintenance and repair tasks.
• You must have a valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.
• Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and respectful working practices.
Desirable:
• Previous experience in a caretaker, handyman, or facilities role.
• Understanding of health and safety regulations.
• Experience working within a housing or local authority setting.
