Purpose of the job
As a senior member of the Engineering Design Management Team, the Principal Engineer will manage multi-discipline engineering resources to ensure design delivery to projects and adherence to the design process and applicable standards.
The Principal Building Services Engineer defines and distributes the scope of work to ensure that the project is executed safely, on time and at appropriate levels of quality. The Principal Building Services Engineer is responsible for the delivery of design and engineering to meet the requirements technical specification.
Reports to
Chief Engineer for the engineering discipline.
Key Accountabilities
1. Development of technical solutions,
2. Develop and reinforce the safety culture,
3. Governance of the design deliverables,
4. Checking/Approval of design deliverables,
5. Contribution to design reviews and safety reviews,
6. Ensuring quality and timely delivery of design documentation throughout all phases of the design process,
7. Compliance with safety legislation, industry codes and standards and statutory regulations,
8. Develop cost effective technical solutions,
9. Staff development,
10. Responsible for managing the quality, and progress of design/engineering work carried out within the team/project,
11. Management of contractors,
12. Provide technical consultancy,
13. Definition and distribution of the scope of design work to ensure that all work is executed safely, on time and at appropriate levels of quality and cost
14. Carry out discipline specific recruitment interviews.
Occupational Skills and Knowledge
15. Degree qualified in a relevant technical / engineering discipline or demonstrable experience
16. Chartership in a discipline specific engineering institution
Duties and Requirements
Essential
17. Strong understanding of the fundamentals within your engineering discipline,
18. Previous experience in a senior role in the management and design delivery of Building Services for nuclear projects,
19. Proven track record of successfully delivering design solutions,
20. Understanding of design requirements to support nuclear safety cases,
21. Good knowledge of safety legislation and statutory regulations,
22. Strong organisational and interpersonal skills,
23. High level of commercial awareness,
24. Management of multi-discipline engineering and design teams,
25. Leadership of a technical team within a project delivery environment,
26. Experience of managing sub-contracts,
27. Ability to develop engineering capability response in support of bid returns,
28. Full membership of a discipline specific engineering institution.
Desirable
29. Expert in Building Services design and team management within the Nuclear Industry
30. Experience of Containment and process ventilation systems,
31. Experience of Design and Engineering substantiation,
32. Construction Site/commissioning experience,
33. Experience of working in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated industry.
34. A full UK driving licence
