Role Description A rare opportunity has arisen for an Engineering Manager to join our Senior Leadership Team here at Cardiff. This is an exciting time to join our business as it continues to grow and evolve following a £60 million investment into our Cardiff site. The Cardiff site has the prestigious status of being the Juice Centre of Excellence.
Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Site Head of Operations, and is part of the SLT, will have responsibility for the planning, resourcing, controlling and coordinating all aspects of engineering and asset management through direct reports, delivering optimum equipment performance efficiency as part of the overall sites performance measures, all implemented and executed within Health, Safety & Environmental legislation, observing site policies and procedures – primarily responsible for upholding Engineering standards across the site.
Responsibility for planning, executing and delivering the Capital portfolio plan also falls within this remit.
This role will also work closely with Group Engineering and OPEX/Continuous Improvement functions when required, to ensure alignment with the Group Manufacturing philosophy including Asset Management and Capital works on time and in full.
Whilst the role is site based, it forms part of a business which recognises the need for change with major growth ambitions and as part of which is likely to expand both in the UK and overseas. The role will need to be flexible and provide support as required to capitalise on whatever opportunities arise.
To coordinate the Engineering function to help the site achieve optimal operational efficiency at lowest cost through the delivery of targets against the strategic objectives of the Group Supply function:

Working Hours
This is a Monday - Friday 08.45 - 17.00 position however given the nature of the role some flexibility may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
• Safety, Quality, Hygiene
o Undertake duties in a responsible manner giving due consideration to Safety, Environmental & Quality procedures, which form part of the Integrated Management System.
o Ensure work undertaken conforms to legislative requirements
o Embrace a culture of safe behavior and contractor health and safety within the production and engineering areas
o Support and embrace a culture enhancing behavioral awareness to reduce the potential for accidents, incidents and near misses.
• Asset Management
o Develop efficient and effective asset care programs to champion availability across both sites, standardising the asset care approach with the drive to ensure effective maintenance systems, in line with the Group PMS Roadmap & the Maturity Matrix site development tool.
o Develop the asset care strategy, building on existing systems.
o To drive the transition from reactive to proactive with targets of 80% of Engineering work planned, 20% of engineering time on day to day running - with 85% known utilisation of engineers.
o Ensuring cost of maintenance and maintaining assets is transparent, known and within expectation.
o Development SAP PM and other systems to drive planning and control and focussed improvements.
o Create, implement and manage both maintenance and capital expenditure budgets for the site, utilising Princes methodology and Group support to achieve the plants and business requirements.
• Stores Management
o Develop effective materials management with optimised levels of spares and stock accuracy and service levels and known cost of asset spares.
o Manage the engineering stores so that Princes Group guidelines are adhered and that the supplier base is regularly reviewed to provide most cost-effective service
o Review stock levels to apply the most cost-effective solution with no impact on the Factory’s KPI’s
o Work within Group KPI framework to drive continuous improvement in working capital management.
• Services and Energy Management
o Manage site facilities, ensure that statutory compliance is adhered and performance standards are at such that best practice is applied for the environmental impact and continuity of supply
o Work within a site services KPI framework to drive performance standards of Water, Air, Gas, Electricity and Steam.
o Work within Group Energy strategy framework to drive continuous improvements in energy consumption and drive down the costs.
• Electrical Management
o Ensure electrical standards are at a minimum compliant with current relevant legislation and the Princes group standards, the site Electrical duty holder is a direct report function.
• Engineering Management
o Drive operating standards of manufacturing assets across the site
o Minor capital management and investment, avoiding obsolescence
o Ensure speed plate rated standards of machinery are adhered to
o Labour levels managed to meet output expectations
o Drive Performance efficiency as part of OEE
• Manufacturing Systems Engineering Management
o Use SAP data to drive decision making and future planning
o Support and assist in MES development
o Performance management systems as used across the site including EMS
o Energy monitoring development
• Capital Plan Management
o This role will have responsibility for planning and executing the Capital plan for site. The role will also have an input into forward strategy for the site and sector.
o Working with Plant Manager, Group Engineering and the Site Leadership teams to manage the implementation of capital projects from initial concept, capital expenditure paper creation through to successful conclusion and sign-off, including:
Preparation and enabling work.
Installation and commissioning.
Training and performance trials.
o Undertake technical and equipment benchmarking where appropriate to ensure the company continues to maintain its competitive edge.
o Ensure compliance with Group Engineering standards, legislation and best practice regarding health & safety and CDM regulations.
o Assist with the development and implementation and the upholding of Engineering standards for the business and ensure compliance at all times.
o Raise and approve, where applicable, capital purchase orders and authorise the payment of invoices through SAP, ensuring that project costs are managed within agreed budgets.
• Continuous Improvement
o Promote and drive GMP & RCA and other continuous improvement tools to identify areas for improvement and establish targets to ensure that the productive capability of the plant is optimised and improved for the needs of the business.
o Systematically review performance, identifying and implementing opportunities to improve equipment reliability and efficiency using the tools available. Develop and manage agreed projects and ensure completion on time and budget, ensuring minimal disruption to the production units.
o Evoke a proactive approach to change and improvements in the performance of the sites.
o To challenge the status quo, driving a culture of best practice and continuous improvement that focuses on elimination of waste in all forms.
• Manage/Develop People
o Ensure that the engineering workforce is appropriately recruited, trained and managed to be able effectively and safely to deliver their tasks and ensure the stability and continuity of this workforce consistent with the long-term needs of the factory. This includes where appropriate managing and developing team members in line with Princes guidelines on performance management.
o Align self and deploy resource appropriately to meet both the site and group strategy.
o Continually assess and develop the team to achieve operational goals.
o Challenge work practices and processes to achieve improved operational performance.
o Manages, develops and motivates the engineering teams ensuring they have the appropriate skills, knowledge and experience necessary to carry out engineering projects effectively.
o Conduct self in line with the Group values and behaviors at all times.
o Develop a culture of ownership within the team for the on-going development of the facilities.
• Technical Leadership
o SLT level technical support for site to cover all aspects. Apply defined best practice in all engineering and maintenance matters. Develop and apply your own specialist technical skills in support of factory KPI’s.
o Ensure that direct reports have full understanding of the fundamentals of the production processes at the factory and that new technology and management procedures are introduced in a manner that improves the cost base and competitive position of the factory.
• Communication
o Work closely with peers as part of the Senior Leadership team to realise objective based performance and drive the sites forward on its improvement targets set within the Princes Manufacturing System framework.
o Work closely with departments external to the immediate sites as and when appropriate – Group Engineering, Purchasing, Marketing, all for driving the sites forward.
o Liaise as required with colleagues within and cross functionally regarding Engineering areas of responsibility.
o Ensure communication with other sites and peers is undertaken as and when required to ensure consistency and best practice.
Carry out any other tasks as may be reasonably requested by your line manager.

Role RequirementsExperience Required:
• Ideally Chartered or working towards a Chartership within the relevant professional engineering institution.
• Graduate or of Graduate calibre, ideally with a further engineering qualification, hands-on experience with a demonstrable track record of success.
• Demonstrable track record of achieving results / managing change.
• Strong operational grounding within a complex fast-moving manufacturing environment.
• Operated and familiar with implementation of the principles of World Class Manufacturing environments / Continuous Improvement methodologies.
• Track record of leadership in the planning and subsequent implementation of capital investment in production facilities.
• Experience of delivering results against financial targets, service levels and safety standards.
• Good working knowledge of operating systems such as SAP, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience of managing people and dealing with Trade Unions
• Experience of operating utilities plant and project management
• Practical electrical engineering experience including legislation
• Experienced in managing all aspects of Automation and the relevant support teams
