About Our Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for students seeking experience in sustainability, waste management, and the environment during a placement year in a sustainability, engineering, chemistry, or environmental science degree.
The role offers a rewarding year in industry with clear career progression paths. There may be travel to over 65 sites across the UK to support project aims. By contributing to our commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040, you will help make the world a better place for future generations.
What You Will Be Doing
As part of our Waste & Environmental Impacts Team, you will provide technical support to enhance EMR’s biodiversity strategy, develop recycling markets, and ensure waste management compliance. You will work on projects aligned with EMR’s Net Zero 2040 goals and our leadership in sustainable materials.
Other Duties Will Include
* Sampling and interpreting waste streams
* Waste classification following hazardous waste guidelines (WM3)
* Data collection and analysis related to Environmental & Social Governance: CO2, energy, biodiversity, waste, and water use
* Preparing clear and concise reports
* Managing your own schedule and assisting others when needed
About You
* Second or third-year student in a STEM subject (chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental science)
* Predicted 2:1 or higher in final year
* UK driving license
* Enthusiastic, proactive, and research-oriented
* Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
* Ability to work independently and in teams
