Overview
Premier Technical Recruitment Ltd are recruiting on behalf of a niche sector market leading client. They are seeking a dynamic and articulate Mechanical Design Engineer to join their vibrant R&D team in Milton Keynes. The role involves support for new product design and development, as well as existing product enhancements, from concept through to production.
Reporting to the Design and Development Manager, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for mechanical design, product build and test of new ideas, and will contribute to both custom projects and new product development initiatives to meet customer requirements and drive growth.
Key duties include developing concept designs to pre-production release, reviewing the current product range for improvements, and actively contributing to daily projects and bespoke designs that align with customer needs.
Responsibilities
* New Product Development — translate product visions into mechanical solutions, conduct analysis and simulations to validate design feasibility and performance, prototype, test, and validate designs, and support the transition from development to manufacturing for seamless production integration.
* Custom Project Support — collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand requirements, conduct feasibility studies and technical evaluations, develop conceptual and detailed designs using Solidworks, and create and review drawings, specifications, and documentation to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance; data management with Solidworks PDM is advantageous.
* Project Design Management — track project progress, identify risks, implement mitigation strategies, and assist with design files, specifications, reports; create fully detailed, tested, and production-ready Solution Specifications including 3D CAD models, fully dimensioned drawings, BS8888/ISO-compliant engineering drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs, and test data.
Requirements include at least 3 years of Mechanical Engineering design experience with a proven track record from concept to delivery, and strong Solidworks skills with attention to detail and problem-solving abilities. Knowledge of manufacturing processes (plastic molding, CNC machining, casting, sheet metal forming) is advantageous, as is experience in system design interfacing with electrical, electronics, and control.
Qualifications
• Minimum 3 years of Mechanical Engineering design experience from concept to delivery
• Strong Solidworks experience; familiarity with Solidworks PDM is beneficial
• Experience with manufacturing processes such as plastic moulding, CNC machining, casting, and sheet metal forming
• Ability to develop concept designs to production-ready state; cross-functional collaboration with electrical/electronics/control interfaces
