Job overview

The Sussex EIP service main area of work is the delivery of care and treatment to young people and adults aged 14-65 experiencing a first episode of psychosis. Help will be offered to reduce service user’s distress, maintain independence and integrity of care networks, shorten illness, prevent relapse, promote recovery and social inclusion, and minimise the impact of disabilities. Work with friends and family members are seen as an integral element to the way care is delivered.

The EIP service is an integral part of the Specialist services division. The service is made up of 6 EIP teams across Sussex managed by a Trust wide Early Intervention General manager and supported by a dedicated EIP Clinical Lead. The teams are located in Horsham, Worthing, Bognor, Brighton, Hailsham and Hastings. This post is within the Hailsham team.


Main duties of the job

* Providing day to day clinical leadership and specialist advice to ensure the needs of the patient group are adequately met and care and treatment plans are put in to place at the earliest opportunity.
* Promote a safe, positive working environment for our patients and our staff, challenging any negative attitudes or behaviours.
* Provide clinical supervision of staff within the team in line with the Trust's supervision policy.
* Supporting clinicians to manage or take the lead with complex cases reducing risks where possible.
* To carry a caseload of Early Intervention in Psychosis patients as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
* Work cohesively with the leadership team providing input into service improvement and development, playing a key role in the implementation of change.

Clinical

To provide comprehensive assessment of mental health specific to for patients presenting with a first episode of psychosis.

* To manage a caseload of clients with complex mental health needs and undertake case management/lead professional/ CPA as needed.
* To be able to communicate with and meet the needs of families and carers as appropriate to the care group and the individual client.
* To work in partnership with other agencies to gain the best person centred outcomes for the individual.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking for someone who is passionate about their career and helping people to develop theirs. Your role will be to support the team leader in providing day to day clinical leadership and specialist advice to ensure the needs of the patient group are adequately met and care and treatment plans are put in to place at the earliest opportunity.

You will need to be committed to maintaining and improving service experience for individuals experiencing first episode psychosis whilst delivering care and treatment to the highest quality. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team you will need to be able to communicate and work with professionals from a variety of professional backgrounds and have a compassionate, holistic and person-centered approach to this exciting post.


REQUIREMENTS

* Registered Nurse with current registration (mental health / LD/ Adult) or Registered Health Practitioner (AHP or SW) appropriate to the job role
* Extensive and recent experience within an EIP clinical setting
* Broad experience of working with clients with a range of mental health problems
* Experience of multidisciplinary working
* Experience of supervising staff and students
* Experience as a Care Coordinator

SPFT staff have the capacity to work from home remotely where applicable and in agreement with your line manager.

Qualifications

* Registered Nurse with current registration (mental health / LD/ Adult) or Registered Health Practitioner (AHP or SW) appropriate to the job role
* Degree/diploma level supplemented by specialist qualification, training, experience, courses to masters level equivalent relevant to the care group
* Evidence of continued professional development.


Knowledge/Experience

* Extensive and recent experience within an EIP clinical setting
* Broad experience of working with clients with a range of mental health problems
* Experience of multidisciplinary working
* Experience of supervising staff and students
* Experience as a Care Coordinator
* Good knowledge/ understanding of National Policy relating to Psychosis, its treatment and management
* Experience of working in lead or management roles
